So many insanely excellent tracks from Weathervanes. I am finally really getting to know this album, and appreciate how brilliant it is. The band is getting tighter and tighter, and stretching out the jams, basically perfectly.
The standouts to me are King Of Oklahoma, This Ain’t It, When We We’re Close, and Middle Of the Morning. Curiously, the most played track, Death Wish, is weaker melodically (and as a solo vehicle) than those others.
Still getting to really know Strawberry Woman, White Berretta, and Save The World, they are the weaker cuts.
Cast Iron Skillet is a little too obvious, but musically has some density.

Check out where they are taking this (magic starts about 4:20 in), and listen to the lyrics.

Curiously, I was actually a little disappointed in the shows I saw in March and May. Since Mid June they have been straight fire, even with Jimbo sidelined. I still wish Derry did a shitton more than just atmospherics.

Sadler and Jason were having so much fun trading guitar licks and Sadler owned HIS song Honeysuckle Blue. Jason and the Cap are both always solid and together. I was blown awayand seen a lot of both over the years.

    That’s a ridiculous setlist.
I hope this tour is being considered for a complete live album.

Jimbo is taking a stress relief break of some kind. Touring was affecting his mental health. In true Isbell fashion, this was all disclosed openly, and encouraged by everyone in the band. Apparently he is playing with some bands locally at home.

Amanda saw me wearing a heavy metal shop hoodie at Deer Valley after her show opening for Greensky Bluegrass and said "I like your sweatshirt!"
I didn't have a witty response unfortunately, but her outfits were
"If we can't bring the mountain to the party, let's bring the PARTY to the MOUNTAIN!"

Sweet. So much carryover with some songs on Weathervanes, IMO. In a good way.

Just for fun, my 15 y.o. Made this for me, he says I listen to more Emo than anyone he knows.
Word is that J.I. saw it and sorta chuckled.

I talked about it a bit but have to share this as I don't take pics at shows and it really was the best show I have seen in years
    https://www.brooklynvegan.com/jason-...n-pics-review/

Driving guitars of when we were close into Cumberland Gap into anthem like Save the world was next level. 20 years of blowing my mind and Isbell won't stop.

Isn't he already a semi- household name? He definitely is here in Idaho.
