DBT came to town last night. Unfortunately the sound was a little muddled and Cooley’s guitar work seemed somewhat off until late in the show. They played a few new tracks and some deep cuts including Bulldozers & Dirt and Angels & Fuselage.

Not bad for a Tuesday but not the best show I’ve seen them play either.

Burlington, VT. Horns only came out for one song. Turns out guitar techs can blow some brass.

Show was great, for the most part. Not as emotionally cathartic as my first show, but I guess that’s normal.
Wasn’t actually super stoked on Amanda Shires. Also think the whole show would be even more awesome if they got a more expressive and dynamic keyboard player (think B3, extended riffs). The main dude is basically atmospheric. Started pouring rain at the end, though.

Looks like they're skipping US PNW dates. Fuck!

Edit: Bought a room and a ticket for Vancouver. Stoked.

Another just wonderful evening with all 400 Units on Sunday. Jason in great voice, Sander's guitar playing was particularly tasty.

Kathleen Edwards (new to me) opened and was really good.

That’s a great bill. Kathleen Edwards has been in the scene for a long time.

Listened to her studio stuff on the way home. More folky/acoustic (which I love and is fine) than I expected given how hard she rocked it live. Seriously good guitar player in her band too.

JH show was great, as expected. However, the sounds was fairly mediocre, and really low volume. But still wrenched chills and emotion from me regularly. They are SO tight.
I do wish they got someone who could rip some jams on the keys, though. He is more 'texture' than flash.

I'm stoked for that release. I like the single they already put out.

I recently stumbled on Joey Landreth/Bros. Landreth. Very good music in this vein. Best Little Feat covers (Joey solo) I've ever heard, and that's coming from a serious longtime LF fan who's heard them all. He's clearly been strongly influenced by Lowell vocally and instrumentally.

Show was pretty damn good, but I am calling it a 7 out of ten due to song pacing, and the Amanda Shires effect.
Jason is a little too...generous with her time.

I’m gonna say it - Cast Iron Skillet is his worst song in a decade or more.

Yeah, I’m not a fan of the new direction but maybe that’s a sign their life is normal and boring like the rest of us. A healthy dose of angst, chemical abuse and conflict makes for interesting art.

I caught Wednesday's show and thought it was pretty good. I agree on Amanda, would rather hear another Isbell/DBT song (and I love Cat Power). Of the 3 new singles, I like Middle of the Morning the best - has a Tedeschi Trucks vibe to it. The missus went both nights and was a little disappointed the setlist didn't change much, but overall enjoyed it.

Slader and Jason were tearing it up on Little Wing, but whatever Amanda was doing of fiddle wasn't helping. As my wife put it, "Well, I guess that's an interpretation".

I would have liked to hear Little Wing. They played Hear Me Knocking (Stones) on Wed, it ripped!

Different strokes...I'm a big fan of Amanda. Love her timbre!
"Vampires" under the full moon, with her harmonies, on a perfect Red Rocks spring evening...10/10.

Now that does sound like fun. I saw them in a crappy old venue here in Clearwater. Still a great show, but I think they would be much more fun somewhere else. Song pacing did feel like they just were running through a catalog.

Interesting! Red rocks is indeed magical, but I love them in crappy old venues best. Smaller the better. And the 5 or 6 times I've seen them there was no Amanda.

In a drift, anyone been hipped to a guy named Ariel Posen? A little slicker than Isbell but still in the Americana vein. Heavy duty slide player/singer/songwriter. Just bought Tickets for a couple if October shows in SEA and Vancouver BC. $22.00.
