Big month for Nevada's Mountain ranges

Nevada has a lot of snow right now, the temperatures are cold and the snow goes all the way down into the valleys.

The Ruby and Jarbridge mountains are looking very good at the moment. It does not always last long down low out in the dry desert, so get the long runs while they are good.

Nevada is also the most mountainous state, if judged by the number of ranges it holds.
There should be little mom and pop chairlifts all over it.

Jarbridge range is up north of 80 along Idaho border.

AK Bruin - if you can stand the drive, jump over to Wells and check out the east aspects over there for quick snomo access from the hiway that heads south toward Austin, I believe. Just from the gas station off the freeway it looks like some sweet terrain for easy, quick and dirty sled laps. Been a while since I've driven that road but I think you'd find a days worth of awesome down there.

Nevada was going to be my Mayan Apocalypse back up plan. Buy a single wide, a pick up and a bad ass sled. And a big tank of fuel.
A hermits ski paradise I think.

Looks like it's happening. Probably going to stay in Elko. If anybody has any recommendations for skiing, eating, or accommodations, feel free to share or PM me. We're leaning toward the Shilo Inn because it has an indoor hot tub, and it's been cold as hell. I hear good things about the Star Hotel for food.

My buddy and I r coming back from the ouray ice fest via salt lake. How's the access up lamoile canyon or elsewhere in the rubies if we don't have a sled?

I spent half a summer flying over Nevada as a fire air attack director (<-attempt at lay translation, I called in air tankers and spotted for the ground pounders). Anyway, I thought that the many mountain ranges in that state were absolutely beautiful...as long as you stayed above 9000 ft. I saw so many skiing opportunities high in the ranges that striate the Great Basin, getting to them being the big issue. Lotta lonely country in Nevada.

Cool. No topo yet. Sleazy motel just booked and plans just starting to come into focus.

No worries, there is sports bar right across the parking lot from Shiloh too. Just bring some ear plugs for the I80 traffic.

Awesome, awesome weekend. May or may not put together a TR.

I'm gonna give the Shilo Inn some major props. That place kicks. The rooms are fine, but the hot tub and steam room were critical given that temps in Elko were consistently below 0 f. Also, the free breakfast was hearty and fantastic.

Unfortunately, we missed dinner at the Star. There was an 1.5 hour wait and, after a long day of toil and play, that wasn't going to work. It was closed yesterday. Had mexican at La Fiesta, which was great. We'll hit the Star next time, and there will definitely be a next time.
