Who was saying she was over the hill? Her competition at the moment is mostly older than Shiffrin (27). Gut (31), Brignone (32), Vlhová (27), Mowinckel (30). It would be nice to see some young talent push Shiffrin. I am afraid she will get complacent beeting up on these geezers. Alice Robinson, the last youngster who was supposed to push Shiffrin (at least in GS) has seemed to regress.

Katrina Liensberger (25) was pushing her, but has gone through some complicated team changes.
Once she is back on track Liensberger can push Shiffrin.

Katarina is too nice of a person for the evil empire. She would have thrived on just about any other national team.

Has anyone ever finished top 10 in every discipline, while winning 2 or more?

    Yes.

    Tina Maze in 2013.

    1st overall
    2nd in DH
    2nd in SL
    1st in GS
    1st in SG
    1st in Combined

Arguably the most dominant season, ever. Set the record for WC points.

The issue now is that Combined isn't a part of the competition anymore. You had quite a few who would have if you included it. Similarly, they didn't have SG until 1986 and Combined in 1975.

Janica Kostelic in her final season was close as well.

    1st overall
    4th in DH
    1st in SL
    3rd in GS
    5th in SG
    1st in Combined

Anja Paerson also was extremely impressive:
In 2005 she was 1st overall, 8th in DH, 6th in SL, 2nd in GS, 4th in SG, 2nd in Combined

For men you had the following who all had extremely impressive seasons:

Bode in 2005 was 1st Overall, 2nd in DH, 15 in SL, 2nd in GS, 1st in SG.

    Hermann Maier:
In 1998 was 1st Overall, 2nd in DH, 36th in SL, 1st in GS, 1st in SG, and 2nd in Combined
In 2000 was 1st Overall, 1st in DH, GS, SG, and 2nd in Combined (no SL)
In 2001 was 1st Overall, in DH, GS, and SG.

    Aksel Lund Svindal:
In 2007 was 1st overall, 7th in DH, 21st in SL, 1st in GS, 5th in SG, 1st in Combined

I'm sure there are others from before my time following skiing (basically 2000 onward) who had very impressive seasons as well.

The difference is, Mikaela has been consistently dominant for over a decade. She's missed out on a season title just three times in her career: 2016 (knee injury), 2020 (father passed), 2021 (back injury/off season but still won 4 World Championship Medals). Basically, the only other skiers who claim similar overall dominance are Hirscher (every overall title from 2012-2019), Stenmark (self explanatory), or MAYBE Zurbriggen (Stenmark's contemporary). Among women, you've only really got Lindsay Vonn who can claim similar dominance.

Oh c’mon. Plenty of couch jockeys have been making stupid comments about Mikaela ever since she “failed” at THE OLYMPICS!!! She is an amazing skier and athlete and an even more amazing human. But espn bro will never know that.

Didn’t Maze tell her that that season wasn’t worth it? Most amazing season ever but it kinda ruined her career, trashed her body.

That is very cool. It was also cool to see them give her the crown for the awards presentation.

Shiffrin had to beat Maza to get her first title.

I recall reading something like that. I think it definitely was a contributing factor along with an extremely hard-nosed coach and starting on the WC circuit at the age of 15. All of that can draw someone away from the sport. She was almost 30 when she pulled off that accomplishment too. She still have a VERY successful career by any metric after that season FWIW (2 Olympic Golds, 2 World Championship Medals, 4 1st place results, and a 2nd overall in her last full season).

She was also a lock for the DH title after Vonn blew her knee, but finished one point behind in the standings because the last race was cancelled. Nobody comes close to that season, and now she's a cautionary tale for anyone who would want to try.

Meanwhile, Shiffrin wins another two in a row. How many points of the remaining 1200 will she tack on this year? She's over 1500 now, 5th overall title is all but on lock.

Shiffrin is back to the level where all the others are taking all the risks to try to beat her.
