So close. Wonder if it was nerves or just a slow run. Wish the USST could figure out a single streaming platform for this shit.

^^^She said earlier she was really tired due to menstrual cycle. And Lena Duerr knocked out two strong runs

She may not break the WC record this season, but she will at some point.

She clinched the slalom title for the season, setting another record (most slalom titles).

She clinched the Slalom Globe today.
With Åre and Soldeu (World Cup Finals) the only 2 SL races left, this leaves only a maximum of 200 points left to grab. Shiffrin leads Holdner and Vlhova by 255 points, so the Globe is cinched.
For the GS Globe she leads Gut-Behrami by 118 points with only Åre and Soldeu to go. This shouldn't be close as long as she finishes in top 5 in the 2 remaining races, but Gut-Behrami is a fierce competitor who could win both races. (points awarded are 1st 100, 2nd 80, 3rd 60, 4th 50, 5th 45, 6th 40... all the way to 30th with 1 point). (World Cup finals only awards Points up to 15th place, but thats a whole different discussion I can explain if you ask)
For the Overall Globe she basically has it wrapped up, she leads Vlhova by 731 points and Gut-Behrami by 791 points, technically there are still 1100 points up for grabs for the remaining 11 races (DH x 3, SG x 4, GS x 2, SL x 2) , but thats unrealistic for either Vlhova or Gut-Behrami to gain that many points on Shriffrin.

And she just turned 19 three days ago!!! https://www.fis-ski.com/DB/general/a...&sectorcode=AL Great article here!:https://embed.olympics.com/en/news/s...utic-interview

Meanwhile, Miki leaves this comp still needing one win to tie Stenmark, while 32 year old Lena Duerr, thanks to a blistering 2nd run and Miki's average run, finally gets her first SL win. And it is the same venue where Shiffrin made her WC debut, days before her 16th birthday.

    Let's see.

People thought Alice Robinson would be pushing her on the GS side of things but she's really struggled the last few years. Same with Aronsson Elfman from Sweden. She won 3 Jr. World Championship Medals (1 SL, 2 GS) but so far she hasn't been able to replicate that speed in GS (lots of DNQs) and "only" managed 4th in SL as a career best.

For whatever reason, the SL skiers outside of Vlhova, Mikaela, and Holdener seem to be very inconsistent. If it wasn't for Mikaela, we'd be putting those other two among the pantheon of great women skiers. Poor Holdener has 32 SL podiums with just 2 wins. Vlhova for reference has 40 but with 18 wins.

    Crazy win rate!
Digging deeper on the 538 site, there is a related article from 2019:

The title is quickly showing its age:

Shiffrin should easily break 300K by the end of the season. Can she catch Hirscher by the end of her career?

Most certainly if she stays at it until age 30+ and doesn't have a major injury.

On the men's side... If Hirscher was still at it and hadn't retired at 30... it's hard to see anyone but Odermatt that could have prevented him from from extending his 8 straight overalls to 12 this year.
Move upside and let the man go through...

Shiffrin barely missed a win in the combined at the world championships.

Shiffrin straddled the third-to-last gate in her slalom run while appearing to be close to beating first-run leader and eventual winner Federica Brignone of Italy.

Her next race in the WC is the Super-G on Wednesday.

Silver medal in the Super G!

According to ESPN, this is her 12th medal in 15 career world championship races. That's nuts.

BTW, ESPN headline is "Mikaela Shiffrin settles for silver in super-G at worlds". "Settles"? WTF.

    yeah ( Yes ) -

    headlines are Bullsh*t .

    the racers know > the season shows Who the champ.s are ;
    Olympics and 'Championship' are nice races;
the World Cup (series) determines the Champions.

    Just RACE ! have Fun ! !!
GS and SL to come -
    You Got this, MS !

I witnessed Stenmark. and fearless Lindsey -

to me, MikaelaShiffrin is the greatest racer (ever)

    (( with a nod to The Kaiser - who dominated 10/10 (?)( maybe less (1975) ) , and

    won again in '83 ( 1983) ! ))

    Go ! get 'em ! !! MS ! !!!

    With great Respect. tj

Agreed. I could even see that headline for something like slalom, where her winning is more common (though "settles" is still weird, as if she had any say in where she finished). But super G is not her primary event, and settles makes it sound disappointing.
