Thanks Mr Rippinstick! His students are fortunate ! Ross & I were room mates / house mates in college and in Vail. Many fond memories...love it when we get the chance to visit & catch up. Ross is my number two premium branded friend, all-time lifetime (Mrs anemic being #1). I really miss him. ( < understatement)

Back on track - How 'bout it? Mikaela Shiffrin...WORLD CHAMP!!!

How about season champ and a World Cup Globe in the slalom for the barely 18 year old. She overcame a 1.17 second deficit in the second run to win the championship. Maze was leading after the first run but couldn't match Mikaela's pace in the second run. Maze was also leading the standings by 7 points going into the race. The season came down to the last race and the kid won. Now it's back to high school for the rest of the semester. She is supposed to be on Letterman Tuesday night and the Today show Wednesday morning.

^She will be the face until mainstream news (ESPN, Fox, etc) grabs a hold of this story. Still havent seen anything on the news about it garnering the coverage she deserves. Ted had a fabulous season as well

Way cool. No doubt the USSA/USOC PR team had a good story ready to feed the NYT, but it does sound like she's a good kid IRL. I think her mom being on tour helps to keep her grounded.
I always dig the pure joy and lack of drama from ladies like J Mancuso and Shiffrin - a REALLY nice change from the Dramafest that accompanies LV.

A little awkward at points (fast girls...) but a good interview.Aim for the chopping block. If you aim for the wood, you will have nothing. Aim past the wood, aim through the wood.

Bumping this thread up since she deserves to have her own thread rather than be buried in one of Vonn's drama threads.
So far this year:
1st - Slalom (Soelden)
6th - GS (Soelden)
2nd- GS (Beaver Creek)
Currently in second Overall
Oh, and she is still only 18.
The hype machine is definitely building as we inch closer to the Olympics.Last edited by From_the_NEK; 12-02-2013 at 01:11 PM.

I hope the media attention doesnt overwhelm her come olympics time. She is 100% favorite for SL and a contender for the GS

Agreed. How much control does an athlete have over media interactions at the games? Does she have to go to everything her sponsors tell her to go to? Or can she say "I'm only doing these two interviews today and then I'm concentrating on my event." ?
Does the USST have some control over protection of their athletes? Or do they tell them to get out there and promote the USST!
At least Lindsey is still planning on racing which should occupy the cameras for a while.Aim for the chopping block. If you aim for the wood, you will have nothing. Aim past the wood, aim through the wood.

She is an amazing skier. She just started competing in GS this year (on the WC) and places 6th and 2nd! Looking forward to seeing her compete in all 4 disciplines eventually.

She actually started entering GS races the first year competing in FIS. She worked a lot on it over the off season and we can see the results. You can see her steady improvement in GS last year. Those GS results are a big reason she finished 5th overall last year (only a 40 points behind Mancuso).
