Sometimes. Other times it's Agent Orange, genetics, radiation, toluene, overcooked olive oil or radon gas. If it's not one off those, though, yeah, definitely smoking.

Do you believe it's safe to ski a slope as long as it has tracks on it?

Trying to have a discussion with someone who doesn't believe in climate change or doesn't believe that bad things will happen as a result of climate change is pointless.

It just amazes me that with all the science out there, that some can honestly try to justify that climate change is not real and is not affecting us. Bottom line, we are all fucked, and I have no confidence that we will turn it around. When Mr. Smith said we are a cancer on this world, he was absolutely correct.

he says this as Breckenridge is likely to have 4 feet before Thanksgiving and the city of Buffalo is about to have 6 feet(more than it gets in a year) before Thanksgiving.

Please remember that C02 accounts for less than 1% of the atmosphere and humans account for about 5% of that 1%.

    Thank you.

    Now back to hysterical nonsense.

^^^ Weather =/= climate. But you knew that and are being intentionally dense.

The planet has set average global monthly temperature records in four of the nine months through September and as of last month 2014 is on track to be the warmest record on record. So, yeah, the area south of Buffalo just experienced an epic lake-effect blizzard. But that means dick to the discussion here. (Edit- Actually it does, but not in the way you think it does: http://www.slate.com/blogs/future_te...e_extreme.html)

Now back to venting about dunces like SkiCoug.

I stared at this statement for a long time before posting this, and tried so hard to just let it go...but...I...just...can't. Anyway, I'm not going to get in an internet fight over climate change...but I have to address this. People LOVE to make arguments like this, but climatologists state that one of the results of climate change is....instead of gradual (for lack of a better word) precipitation, some areas will get "slammed" with powerful storms which will dump large amounts of precipitation, and then very little precipitation, while other areas will begin to dry up. Getting hammered with 6 feet of snow is not good; how is that beneficial? "Gradual" precipitation is good. You can't ignore the fact that storms are getting worse. Anyway, the science and research is out there.

Actually, it's not really about climate change or global warming, those are just by-products of the over population of this earth that will be our demise.

The population issue is related (greater consumption, middle class growth in emerging markets, etc) but still separate from this conversation.

You're right, the Sun doesn't care. But that's the problem...we're trapping more of its heat, and obviously we can't ask the Sun to tone it down a bit so we can compensate.

The timeframe is up for debate, and pointing to one storm is obviously asinine, but the climate and meteorological events are evidencing higher degrees of variability. That is a fact. As the earlier poster noted, that means larger, more infrequent storms and larger numbers of major weather events (what's the probability that the Philippines has two super typhoons in the space of a few years??)

No, no it's not, and how pray tell what exactly are we doing to hold it in, i.e how we are fuckin up the atmosphere? And what exactly do you and the op suggest we do about it?

huh? no what's not? you don't need to have a debate on TGR to find out how climate change works or the possible solutions. go read a newspaper or something, it's all out there.

i guess i can't resist - CO2 and other greenhouse gases are trapping the Sun's heat, which is raising Earth's temperature. leading to rising sea levels and temperature, changes in weather patterns and intensity, changes in agricultural production, etc., etc.

solutions? still working on it. without totally screwing our economy and those of other countries (especially emerging economies with growing middle classes), it takes some time. basically we need to both (a) reduce emissions of greenhouse gases and (b) find ways to sequester carbon (i.e. CO2). former has more scalable solutions - renewable energy, reduce oil consumption through EVs, changes in transportation, etc.

frankly, most businesses these days factor climate change into their risk assessment and future business strategy. McDonald's even goes on at length about the huge risks that their business faces from climate change. Wal-mart, etc. as well. If they can acknowledge then i'm sure you can manage to do the same.

Nope, I can't, there isn't enough co2 on the planet to affect the atmosphere, and if you did regulate it more than it already is, you would kill plant life, which makes??? Oxygen. read that in a book in the second grade I'm pretty sure? Haha, I used to be able to read! Not to mention the US has by far the least emissions of any industrialized country on the planet by far! Last I heard 8% vs China's 23% and we have a third or less of the people! So I'm sorry if I sound dismissive but if you want to fix the world go bitch at the people who aren't doing anything about it

Still waiting on specifics, I can be a mean teenage girl as well but until i hear a legitimate argument to what I stated your just making a jackass out of yourself. For the record I do my best to take care of this place but I'm relatively certain you cats have no real basis to argue anything I've said. I have no intention to piss anyone off who cares to be a good steward but try to be realistic for fuck sake

As far as CO2, China just recently passed US as #1 emitter. We are still #2. So your stats are 100% wrong.

In addition, it is incorrect to say that there isn't enough CO2 on Earth to affect the atmosphere. The entire problem is because by burning fossil fuels, etc. we are increasing amount of CO2 above the Earth's (read: plants) ability to naturally take CO2 out of the atmosphere.

We also trade off with the UK as the #1 per capita emitter, and we're certainly the biggest historical emitter. But hey. Facts.

Please try to pay attention, as far as co2 is concerned it is literally .4% of the earths atmosphere, so as I said before neither you or I could affect it no matter how hard we try. It does not matter how you skew the numbers, co2 does not hurt your contentious idea of how amazing humans are compared to the totality of the Earth. On the realistic side of the argument the US does produce a mere 8% vs China's 23% of real emissions (things that are bad for you,I, and our children) and that is legitimate progress which you had no part in other than your bitchin on this forum. So if I were someone who was interested in factual information I might just check out what the 30,000+ PHD's had to say about global climate change based on human devouring of our planet. But I'm sure that doesn't really count cuz they're all stupid and you don't drive a vehicle, heat your home, flush your toilets, or use electricity.... my bad

Well good job with the teenage girl act. Just because it's .4% doesn't mean it isn't significant. I man there are various toxins out there that require much less than .4% of your body weight to kill you.
