Sneezed violently while running a commercial log splitter, haha. The log split before I even realized what happened. They are trying to salvage it, but good chance it's getting amputated below my knuckle. Was a pretty unpleasant sensation fer sure.

Yeah,
I dropped a cinder block on the left index finger when I was 13. If not for leather work gloves, would have smashed it right off.
The finger was surgically repaired to the extent possible, but there was considerable nerve and vascular damage that could not be corrected. The upshot is that in cold weather, the finger goes numb, painfully so at times. In addition to that, there little strength and tactile feeling is greatly diminished, and, as a consequence, I've been using my middle finger as a de facto index finger for the past thirty (30) years. I am strongly considering having this worthless finger surgically removed from the second (2nd) knuckle.
If you didn't suffer permanent or unreparable/unhealable insult to the circulation in your wounded finger, then you ought to be OK. Otherwise, discuss the amputation option with your orthopod. Best o' luck.Daniel Ortega eats here.

Yes.The blood supply is all from the other side,so is probably ok if not crushed. Looks like the extensor tendon might have been cut.In a dirty wound, just cleaning it up with a water-pik and splinting it in as much extension as possible would likely heal the skin and the tendon

A friends 15 y/o son had his index finger nearly severed while moving a boat trailer this fall.
They reattached the dangling digit and although it looks funky it seems to work fairly well (his handwriting sucked anyways).
Good Luck, it would be a shame to lose the tip, how would you ?

Last spring my finger got caught in an auger from a machine that recycles old clay. It was caught pushed up against the wall and crushed, slow moving so i was able to move it away quickly. It almost took the whole tip off. If it was straight and not at an angle the whole tip would of been off. A trip to the ER and abunch of stitches later it was back on. Now its just a bit funny looking and doesn't feel much
Same here, but I'm not at the point of considering amputation.
Best of luck and I hope it heals well. Whatever happens that hand will be out of commission for awhile and that takes some getting used to.

Still just sitting around watching netflix on painkillers. Zero feeling in the fingertip and the rest of it feels like it's been folded over and compressed inside the splint/bandages, very uncomfortable but not really painful. Worst part is wondering how long I'll be without income, self employed make my living fixing cars, electronics, selling firewood and excavating and I'm probably looking at 3 months out of action with $300 in the bank.
Hoping I'll be able partially get back to the firewood next week, assuming I can get someone to cut the rounds for me to split. Guessing I might be able to pull off 2 cords a week, so I wont starve at least.
My only drivable car right now is a stick, so I'm planning on getting a steering wheel knob and modifying a skating wrist guard to "clip" onto the shift knob so I can drive.
Don't think I'll be able to log any days on snow this season, could sell a bike or two, but I think I would seriously regret that long term.
I should be able to update tomorrow with new photos and how well the reattachment is taking.

I hope you guys heal up fast and fully. I know what its like...
I had a nasty hang nail last week and I'm nursing a painfull paper cut right now. Just sitting on the couch with the oxycontin.
But seriously I had two fingers crushed/slammed between a couple of 500 pound platforms. Circulation still isn't right, although I have full mobility, so I feel pretty lucky.
Had a buddy that badly broke a finger. Was out in the cold all day and got massive frostbite. Like black and swollen huge. Hospital visits, skin peaking, he nursed it back, but they were about a day away from amputating.
