Hey Covert, I might be headed up Wednesday night, some friends have reservations for Thursday and Friday and unfortunately I dropped the ball calling on time to ski on Thursday. I'm in for Friday but what can I do on Thursday? Is there a regular safe place for skinning? I thought about going out with the snowcat op but I'm scared to spend that much and I would be with people I don't know. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks

Get there early. Be first on the wait line. Sit patiently in the corner, ready to go. Make sure your group lets the guide know that they'll probably be +1. Never seen it be a problem. No guarantees however.

I can't make it unfortunately. I will however sell my day that I have reserved on Friday to anyone that wants it for $100.00. Send me a pm if interested.

Hitting San Juan Cats today....so stoked! We hit DMR yesterday and although it had been skied, it was still pretty good with some stashes. Here is our daily video for the start of our Colorado tour.

It's been great at DMR the last few days! Nice video.
Edit: Red Mountain was closed yesterday for avy control work and the previous day the 550 was close between DMR and Silverton due to slide near Lime Creek.Last edited by Alpinord; 01-30-2013 at 09:30 AM.

With almost the entire month of January going by with no substantial snow, I spent last weekend hardpack hucking and charging off the T-Bar at Breck. On Sunday night, while watching the numbers stacking up in Wolf Creek, the girlfriend and I decided that it was time to hit the road and do some storm chasing. Seeing all the snow at the Ute Bluff in South Fork on Monday night, we knew it was going to be good the next day.
CAVEAT: Not happy with the footage, especially the angles - still trying to get the cam dialed in on the new helmet - but at least I can shoot footage again! I also need to start remembering to turn on the camera in all the excitement, as a sweet pillow zone was missed, as was another even nastier huck right off the top of the Knife Ridge - ollying over some branches to get into the sweet 20' drop. Soooo much fun!
Also, last week PowTron spotted a photo of me in Colorado Life Magazine from Wolf Creek opening day last year. Funny shit, never even knew this was out there.

San Juan Cat Skiing - Jan 30
We hit San Juan Ski Company cat skiing yesterday and found some decent conditions. With high avy conditions and the higher cat roads still buried from the three feet of new, we stayed on Cascade Ridge and relatively low. Still, it was a blast with some blower in the old growth and aspens both. Bob and Carrie are a blast to ski with and wanted us to be sure to let people know they're taking day trips and to give them a call. Do it! This storm will ski well for awhile. Here's what we found.

Lindahl, nice stoke! I had a similar issue with my gopro angle sucking while in utah last week. Yours looked decent most of the time though. Looks like you hit the wolf at the right time! Well played, sir!

Silverton was great. The snow had settled a bit over the last couple days so it wasn't 4' of over the head blower, but it was deep. And bluebird. And calm. And we skied shit off the summit. Excellent day. Hopefully somebody took pics. Should be a fun day on the pass!

We hit Wolf Creek yesterday and although it had been three days since the last storm, we still found some pockets that skied really well. Bluebird and soft snow go a long way toward a good day. Here's what we found .

Telluride has been excellent this week. ALL week. Free refills on Tue and Wed, and there remain some pockets of goodness in the woods.
They opened up Revelation Bowl this morning, and as expected it was skied out within ~ 1 hours. Lots of barely hidden rocks on the R side.
