Hit Silverton yesterday for their first day of spring unguided. Bluebird and warm with excellent corn after about 10:30. I don't think there were more than 50 people on the mountain. The N. San Juans avi report this morning said the melt went to 13,000 feet yesterday (top of Billboard) but it did not freeze below tree line last night, so it'll be real soft today, although there'll be some light cloud cover. Snow coverage was pretty good and allowed top to bottom ripping almost everywhere with easy dodging of rocks.

Some fun looking stoke in here. Anyone ever been to the Phoenix Ridge Yurt? Am thinking of a trip there soon, wondering if it's as sweet as it looks. Hoping for some fun skiing, too, but a cozy spot in some beautiful mountains is the primary goal.
Thanks for any info you may have. Since I'm asking for yurt beta, here's a shot of the Zimmer Yurt in the Beartooths. It's neat.Last edited by ODHGABFE; 04-08-2013 at 09:27 PM.
I think the potato gun proved the stability.

Silverton closing day was all time. 12" fresh. Got fresh tracks on tiger, was there when they dropped the rope on both cabin and tiger main. Best day of the season (in the USA) for me.

Yeah man! I was in the guided group (completely clueless on the terrain there) and had a fucking blast! We closed the day out on sunset, such awesome terrain at that place!

you should try actually using your poles... I mean if you're gonna hold on to them anyway...

Will be in Telluride January 4-9. Hoping the early season snow comes hard and heavy. Would love to be able to access some of the hiking terrain by then.
((. The joy I get from skiing...

There's talks in my family about end of March...
Anyone know if Allegiant Air is doing the cheapo flights to Montrose again this year? I flew a family of 5 out there with luggage for under $1000 last season...direct from Oakland.

I saw an article in the paper about cheap allegiant flights from LA and Phoenix.. not sure about Oakland.
I'm a noob to t.ride this year. This is a long shot but if anyone out there wants to hook up for some mellow bc skiing, I am down. 6 yrs skiing the wasatch, just looking for some local knowledge, safe mellow trees.. not looking to get movie style rad. Ophir? Lizardhead? the options seem limitless out here. I dont get online much but live in mtn village and have a truck.. 616-5six6-2330
Its been a great early season so far.. I've been sidelined the last week with a sore foot but lots of pow and all lifts are set to open next saturday, not sure about 15 or 7, but the rest will go. Watched a dude launch awesome rock last monday the first day patrol opened lift 9.. fuck ya doood if you post here, that was fuckkkin siiiiick brahhhh!
I'm the big tall dude usually in a blue jacket or black t-ride jacket (i make snow) and on either orange movement goliaths or kastle bmx 108s.. desperately trying to adapt my haul ass snowbird style to these steep and tight bump lines without killin myself. say wazzup if you see me
