Also should've tuned up the chainsaw before this storm rolled through. No trees down yet, but it's only a matter of time.

So far heavy rain and winds on and off. Keeping an eye on the English walnut in the back yard as it has some carpenter ant damage from ten years ago. Power still on. Gen at the ready. Kegerator full. So far so good

I figure since Sandy is going to be visiting Bruce Springsteen's back yard, so to speak, this song is a propo:

"The reason death sticks so closely to life isn't biological necessity - it's envy. Life is so beautiful that death has fallen in love with it; a jealous, possesive love that grabs at what it can." by Yann Martel from Life of Pi

5 pm here in New Canaan and it is really starting to rip. Still have power but that will end fairly shortly. Good thing most of the leaves were down.

Every time there's a hurricane I watch the on-scene weather reporter standing out in the middle of the storm and I'm just wait for one of them to get decapitated from flying debris on live TV. It hasn't happened yet, but that would be cool

Someone I know just posted on Facebook about this storm being manufactured as a part of some massive conspiracy. Something about chemtrails, cloud seeding, and HAARP. I am completely dumbfounded by this.

Thanks for the update. For those of us watching this from points west, we'd appreciate some more live blogging from the OldLarry residence.

Good bud of mine, RIGHT on the water in Milford called a couple of hours ago and said he and the wife had just finished putting the furniture on the countertops, as it was getting close already.

Irene pushed his house 6 inches off the foundation, and FEMA demanded that it had to be put up 3 feet to get reinsured. He just moved back in 6 weeks ago.

Just lost power. It was inevitable, and we're prepared for the most part, but it still sucks ass.

Sustained winds are a bit of mind fuck.
