Excellent day up Poison into Bee Gulch today east of Bear Valley Resort. Cold but still, so t shirt skinning. Stayed to the southerly slopes with wonderful mixture of nice wind buff and soft powder. Can't wait til the snow settles out a bit and we can get into Underwood.

Won't be at Dodge this weekend, I just like to keep tabs (grew up there).

Have fun tomorrow night. Hope to make one of those one of these days...

Where are you thinking about going? Me and my dad might be out after it gets chewed up at CP.

Even dogs and cats can get along on a powder day

Bear had a good shakedown day Thursday.
It was more like a weekend crowd with the lot and lines full.
People were smiling despite a few lift shutdowns.

I found Powdrhound on the lift and got to spin a few laps with him.

for a Kirkwood slut Powdrhound knew his way around the mountain pretty well

It wasn't all like this midmorning run, a short skate/hike from the lift,
but I got to put down three overlapping lines in one of my favorite spots.

Yes, a Fine day at Bear.
Could it really be 45 years since my first ski day there?
The rocks and trees are still in the same positions.
    My favorite lines were sweet.

Thank you, Bear Valley, for such a successful promotion.

Same here. Central west slope has a lot of unsung greatness. Especially considering it is in California.

I gotta be honest, I dont' have a clue. I left the area before I ever started touring & don't know what's good. I've been told Red Mtn and Bear Butte are options, but never tried either. I'm throwing myself open to suggestions and meeting new mags.

Ooooh, I'm going to say doubtful. It takes pretty good coverage. Maybe somebody who was up there could speak to how it looked down there. The website is projecting no Griz tomorrow.

Red Mountain is a lot flat but good skiing when you get there. Bear Butte is a great short, fun one with only one flat spot. If you're ambitious, Kaiser Peak is the best by a lot.

I haven't managed to scare up a partner yet and don't particularly fancy getting out in unfamiliar terrain by myself. If you're interested in meeting up and maybe showing me around (or just letting me tag along), that would be awesome. If not I'll just see what I can harvest inbounds at CP on Monday.

I'd suggest staying at the resort. I was up today and coverage is pretty grim below 75000 which would mean lots of rocks at any place that'd be worth skiing. But CP was great today!
