Ottime: Modesto. Ya, google says 15, but I've never had that experience. We go the back roads. And 4 just doesn't get the Bay Area folks. Makes a huge difference. And if it snows low and a lot, forget it. I'm going to Dodge. Mike and I have had this conversation- it may not have to gnar and vert of The Wood or Bear (if Snow Valley is open), but no resort gets less tracked out than Dodge does.
    Should keep that a secret.

I love me some gnar, but I can also enjoy a slowly tracked out hill on a powder day.

Years ago I was coming home from a super fun powder day at Sugarbowl and saw all the untracked left at Soda Springs. Went home thinking I skied the wrong mountain.

Always figures the time I saved on the drive to BV was mostly lack of traffic. Makes sense you save even more with big low elevation storms.

I know, right? Although I highly doubt there will be a maggot infestation at DR on pow day. Didn't you know this place is full of the "best skiers on the mountain"?!

Another factor is that on a big storm day or the morning after one, there are a lot more snowy road miles on 4 and 88 than on 108. Really cuts down on the drive time. And if you're lucky enough to catch ~mikey b up there, he knows where the goods are. He's shown me some great stashes. Thanks Mike!

Sonora, CA — Next week Caltrans crews will fan out to check on the road conditions along three highways for seasonal clearing, including one in Tuolumne County.

Plowing will begin on Tuesday (April 2) on Sonora Pass Highway 108 and Ebbetts Pass Highway 4 and Monitor Pass Highway 89, both in Alpine County. Caltrans warns that the work could limit snowmobile access on those highways. The target each year is to get the roadways cleared by Memorial Day Weekend, but Caltrans officials acknowledge that Mother Nature can hinder that goal with a late spring storm. That scenario did take place in 2017 when severe winter storms hindered clearing and kept Sonora Pass closed until June 13th with Ebbetts Pass not opening until just before the July 4th holiday, as reported here.

Snow removal on Sonora Pass will run from the Sno-Park to Eagle Meadows. Once the snow is removed crews will also unclog drains while also repairing or replacing damaged signage and removing downed trees. As the snow melts on the roadsides, workers will begin clearing vegetation along ditches to prevent flooding due to spring runoff.

Finally, all pavement repairs will be made including sealing cracks and re-stripping the roadway. With that accomplished, the gates will swing open for traffic to use these passes through the busy summer and fall travel seasons.

Bear was great Friday. Had a group of 7 - that was cool. Never skied in a big pack like that. Really fun. Spent all morning out Tiggers/Spyglass way.

    Thanks for the voucher Mike!

I love Grizz. Friday I had Caleb with me and he's just shy of Grizz skills in his abilities. So we were lapping the trees out by Spyglass and meeting him at the bottom. I bet it was tits down there in the morning.

    FREE ski day at BV

Could be quite the goat rodeo.

Skied with hopelesslyadolescent and sailcat yesterday. Sounds like GiBo will be up today.

Warm closing weekend on tap and I’m off Saturday and Sunday, so I get to play.

And it was a glorious day. Not too goat rodeoish as we'd thought it'd be. Late clouds kept the snow perfect all day.

Great to see you Mike. Happy 420!
