PSA - Southwest Airlines 40% off sale

Different from previous years' sales (fixed prices based on distance), this year they are doing 40% off the Wanna Get Away roundtrip fares, using promo code BIGDEAL40. Book by Thursday night. Has blackout dates, checkout southwest.com for all the info.

This is the best sale SW will have for winter travel, and they count ski/snowboard bags as one of your 2 free checked bags.

Definitely different from last year's deal, but still a good deal. I booked a January RT for a week of skiing in Utah.

Kind of hit and miss on the good fares. Nothing that fit my needs.

yep, limited dates, limited flights, limited markets.

The easiest/fastest way to do it is do a search for when you want to go WITHOUT the 40% off code. This will bring up the flights, and also the option to look at their Low Fare Calendar. This calendar will show the cheapest flights for each day for a month. For some reason this calendar is not coming up when you try and use the coupon code.

Looking at the calendar you can see the price of regularly priced flights.....I took the cheapes flights, discount them 40%, and that is the cheapest option. It is easier than doing 100 searches trying to figure out what dates are the best.

There are definetly blackout dates.....I think it goes from 11/28 to 2/14 with 12/13-1/6 blacked out.

Its killer if you can make it work, but definetly restricted. I can't make any sense of the pricing, but there are deals to be had, luckily some work for me.

You lucky sons of bitches. For some reason, all three DC area airports are blacked out for MLK weekend.

I always thought that was the most hilariously ironic term to use for MLK weekend. Of course it's blacked out! Lol...

Word. It's the best time to buy with cash.

Also, if anyone has flights they booked earlier that are cheaper now, SW let's you cancel and rebook, and keep the difference in a Ticketless Travel Funds e-voucher.

Unfortunately the promo code doesn't work with the Rapid Rewards points.. cuz flying for free is even better.
