Yo, like I said, that was my exact first mountain bike. If I remember correctly it was $800 brand new.

Always nuts to see how far mountain bikes have progressed in 30 years.

New stumpy looks a bit different....

Awesome. There's a semi-homeless alcoholic guy locally who's got an '82 or '83 Stumpy that's in pretty good shape (especially considering who owns it). I offered to buy him $100 worth of booze and give him a newer bike, but he won't let it go.

ya, it was 800 as a brand new leftover. it was bought in '83...sales on mtn bikes back then weren't so good! the thing is obviously huge...21.5 i think. it is mint...wish i could justify throwing 750 away on something to hang on my wall. he has an old klein that is pretty sweet too.

eastcoastas...this is at Recycled sports in Seabrook NH. Derek owns the place...he is the local KHS rep amongst other lines. they are only open on mondays.

Met this guy in Sonoma. 1983 Gary Fisher almost completely original. I think the stem and one other thing had been changed out. He was friends with Gary and Tom Ritchey. Had some good stories about how they all thought they were crazy taking the schwinns up and riding down the fire roads being roadies at the time.

Some of the local morons bought mid 90's bikes last year. There was an amazing Fat Chance with ass loads of vintage ano, I picked up a Bonty Privateer almost bone stock, the fork had been speed springed. We rode them a few times, it was fun to think that was how so many of us started.

Did a little trade for this Gary Fisher Montare last weekend. I believe it's a '91. From what I've read the frame broke frequently above the front derailleur.

I just unburied my old 1989 Stumpy Comp frame. I'm not sure why I've held on to this thing for...well, 32 years. Jeezus.

You don't get any street cred these days unless you pedal a wonky vintage MTB turned townie to the brewery. Bonus points for the handlebar mounted koozie/beer holder.

The CNC machined, colorful ano bits MTB era was my heyday. I still love all that stuff. I'm a kook.

I do remember my friends older brother had a pretty sick Trek in the mid to late 90s with every possible purple ano Ringle part. We would stand in the garage and just stare at the bike. Drool.

This one's in the shed. It's a 75. I had a 74 when I was 10-12. Mowed a shitload of lawns to pay for that back in 74..

That's great. Reminds me of my first time down Sunday River without suspension. I don't know how we rode those things looking back now.

The trails in Interlaken and Volunteer Park in Seattle felt like that time back in ‘91.
