Was this something special back in the day? Looks like something out of Breaking Away....

A very nice Japanese bike. I canít tell for sure but the gruppo looks like top end Suntour. Didnít get much better for the era.

Nishiki made good stuff. Is there any indication of what kind of tubes were used? The brakes tell me it is an older version of the bike, and some forum posts say that some years were made with generic Hi-Ten steel while other years used nice Tange tubesets.

If it has the nice tubes (likely if it also has a top end suntour group), then it could be a good candidate for restoration to some newer parts...but it is definitely not ready to ride and personally I wouldn't bother bother trying work with the existing parts unless you really love vintage shifting.

That's a big boy frame! I would also check to see if it has 27" wheels or 700c, 27" is kind of a headache to convert and if you don't tire choice is very limited.

I had a Nishiki Century that I put a lot of miles on... It was my first "road bike". I got it from a garage sale, used it as a commuter to get to class, did some triathlon stuff with it, got in to the collegiate cycling scene, and then eventually turned it into a gravel grinder when I got that fancy carbon frame. I was pretty proud of it at one point... Haha.

Somewhat succinctly if I do say so myself.

The bike guys I know seem more interested in that pump than the bike itself!
