They told us yesterday that the toll road would be open today. Thought I was working. Turns out I wasn't. Headed up and got there at about 11:30 to attempt some shuttle laps on the North-facing toll road slide. Got there and the road was STILL closed. Fuck. More hiking it was.

Snow line was about 500 vert above where it was yesterday. Had to ski the south-facing resort stuff.

Really manky and thin but still had decent snow. Summited around four. Tons of people up there today.

    Woot woot!

Haven't brought any of them onto the computer. Lens was kinda foggy. It wasn't quite pow.super sense and super creamy. Really only skied In the top two or three inches. Which worked awesome, because there wasn't any base under the snow

we took the stairway up to catwalk and continued down to double dipper where we encountered honest-to-goodness hoot-inducing powder turns...this was the sweet spot up there in the not so early afternoon.
upper east fall was pretty nice too until the bottom. we skipped the lower which had a high sketch/risk factor, and took a long slow slide down great northern before walking down the final 200 ft of vert on some nice, spongey ground.

one lap on supe and we decided there was just enough time for one more run. dead of leg i barely made it in time but had second-to-last last chair waiting for me and it was back up to the top, to finally meet up with vt-free, ml242 and 'the padowan', drink champagne and headies and celebrate before finally facing the heavy gusts for the walk down the headwall to the snow.

as the last few remaining skiers reached the bottom of the snow, non-mags jen and john and i decided it wasn't quite over til we said it was over and walked up the lower snowfield (er, patch) for the last black chocolate stout of the day before being the last 3 off the hill.

ironically the sun would make its first appearance of the day just an hour too late.
great food (and deep fried everything from pickles to cupcakes, PB&J and bacon courtesy of the party's host) and pumping tunes and fireworks ruled the party at the ski tunnel...and like that the long season went out with a blast.

Tuckerman yesterday after nearly 6" fell on the summit Saturday night through Sunday night. Started out windy and a bit cloudy up top (could see snow still blowing into Huntington on the hike up); ended up a lovely spring corn afternoon.

Another lodging option if you haven't already booked anything is the Fireside Inn in Gilford. Right across the street from Patricks Pub. 5 minutes or under to Gunstock. Mills Falls is nicer and has more around it but is a good 20 minutes to Gunstock.

Sunday was one for the record books, indeed. Some shots taken by me and Bucket (after his phone died).

7:30 AM - the excitement begins

About 2-3" at the K1 lodge but much more higher up

8 AM line-up for first tracks

Bucket making every turn count on SS and Ovation

    Skinless skinning up Launch Pad

First stop on the tour was upper Escapade

The best chocolate stout of the season

Next up was Catwalk. Last time I hiked these was opening day on Oct. 13.

Then some hero pow on upper Double Dipper

Finished with a sticky slide down Bunny Buster and Mouse Trap

6 PM and Bucket doesn't want to leave SS

Thanks to Bucket for convincing me to stay a little while longer for the rockin tunnel party. These guys know how to put on a party. Great way to end my best and longest season in 40 years of skiing.

Rudy, Im surprised we didn't run into you at all. But I take it you didn't check the roll-top door on the actual patrol shack? The main door was locked, but garage-looking door opened no problems. They had heat and nudie magazines! We let some clothes dry out in there for a minute while drinking a beer and reading a few articles...

So how much vertical was left?

And sounds like with this wx fx:
    http://www.mountwashington.org/weath...t_forecast.php
... it will no longer be continuous by tomorrow/Thursday?

Can’t be much left by now – even on May 10 (opening day) the vertical was already about to get choked off to ~340'.
Seemed like even less than that about a week ago in Dave Metsky’s pictures ... which I can't find now (TT, T4T?) ... although I did just notice these cool pics from Otto:
