So, I will admit to being back on the East Coast (where oh where is my beloved Eastern Sierra?) and being stuck in New Haven this winter. Is there anything worth skiing this week?

Huh? This is exactly what was predicted to happen. Interior NE was never supposed to get anything crazy.
This is exactly what people were saying when Irene was halfway over and we all know how that turned out.
Billions Name Year

I wouldn't mind a sustained 50 mph wind for 5 hours to blow out the leaves from the trees and yard and send em down the hill.

Shutting down power in lower Manhattan, plus record-breaking water levels at the battery going back to 1821.

Let's wait to see how this plays out before Monday morning quarterbacking. Storm surge could be a bitch. Hope you are right but I'd like to see the event through before calling it a bust. I laughed my ass off at Irene until I had two feet of water in my basement and two dead sump pumps. Won't make that mistake again.

Lower Manhattan just lost power, but I guess they could have traded today. My buddy at Con-Ed is in the East Village depot, he says their cars are floating everywhere. Looks good here, lots of trees snapped in half but the internet streams like my cheap Trader Joe's beer. I mean, it looks good except for the two building collapses in my neighborhood.

So why did I rake yesterday?... Looks like Sandy is an early arrival and that bodes much better as far as storm surge and tide issues... I hope. Buttah may have jinxed it though.
Getting texts from friend in south Jersey shore and the eye is over them... Maybe six hours earlier than expected or forecast. Keep moving biatch!Screw the net, Surf the backcountry!

Two partials... 1.5M people without power right now.
Right by the Queensboro bridge:
My pizza place is just to the left, two buildings over.
I tried to go for a walk to storm chase some good photos but it was pretty shady with shit blowing around. I agree with you that it's kind of a bust so far, but it's not nothing either. Just the fact that they predicted 6" of rain here and now it's down to 1.5" is really crying wolf. Still, Atlantic City and Fire Island are underwater so people are going to be talking about this for awhile.
This thing really threaded the needle between NYC and DC and looks to me like it's going to really miss a lot of New England now with the current track. I dunno. Hopefully it GTFO and I can make it to ski. 6" of liquid precip down there and cold temps? I like it.

Buddy of mine just sent me a text from Mercer Co. saying trees down everywhere and winds are getting stronger. Huge tree in his front yard, easily 60ft.+, went down and shattered his neighbors garage, thankfully everybody is ok.
Stay safe all.

Just went out back to check on the ol' half rotted apple tree that I seriously thought about taking down this afternoon while the dogs were out. Wind took it down by the roots and did some fence damage. The good news is, no need for a stump grinder. I'll be doing some chainsawin in the AM.

Such a strange storm. Some are totally fucked, while others really did not have many issues. Feel as because it wasnt a CAT 5 storm that many felt it wouldbt be as bad as it is/was...i was lucky in central ct, just some crazy winds but never even lost power.

Yeah I just saw that about the record, ML. Looks like the tide has peaked though so hopefully water levels start to come down.
Just read they were performing rooftop water rescues in Sayreville NJ (just south of ny harbor). Crazy.
