And this is what the ice will sound like this weekend:

Just stopped by Totem Pole to say hi to Buttah and he put the sickest tune on my skis to carve the steeps of World Cup, war dance, and sel's choice tomorrow! Thanks dude! I'm actually pretty psyched for a hard pack day now!!

    WOOT!

Btw haven't been to okemo in years and that trail side condo road is legit rally terrain. It's pretty top of the world when you get up there. Still a base too, so maybe the season has another few lives despite what the tux report looks like.

Seriously. Even if the next couple of months are above average Mt. Wash is still fucked for late spring. There is just no hope to catch up when Hillman's looks like that on Feb. 1. (well, unless we get a spring of '97...)

lynchy. won't be heading up anytime soon. specially with how rediculously good the surf was today. cut work short by 4.5 hours to do 2 sessions it was so good. maybe more chance for surf tomorrow and monday........figure it's ok to mention another activity with how the skiing is/will be

nice seeing as always today strawjack! love hearing yer old ski bum stories!

ya^^^^that 100" may of 97 on george was frickin rediculous. to be able to ski from the summit sign on adams right down the wide open upper snowfields above king ravine, then right down the great gully on june 4th was crazy special.

winter 94/95 was grim. we had 9 days 24 hours a day for all 9 of them above the freezing mark on the summit of george. i walked to the summit that jan 18th in leather light hikers, shorts and a t-shirt and put on my shell on the summit cuz it felt weird to be up there in just a t even tho i was comfy. was working at sunday river and that thaw took us from over 100 trails open to just 6 trails open

the sherby barely made it through mid march that year and tux looked like late may in mid march. water holes disconnected gullies. gos never came in.

was one of those years where i left maine in my truck in april and skied the canadien rockies, the coast range, pnw, utah, colorado and came back in june. killer trip for a 22 year old with too much time on his hands

Good chatting with you before I subjected myself to the punishing hardpack at Magic. Damn good thing my skis were freshly sharpened. Plenty of cover but mostly impenetrable, barely edgeable, bulletproof hardpack with ample helpings of death cookies all around. Upper 2/3 of Talisman had a few swaths of groomer that would peel up under edge but those were interspersed with sections of bluish, greenish ice. The sound of my skis chattering drowned out the tunes blasting in my helmet. Cracks me up that some guy is posting on the Magic FB page about how nice the trails were with perfect grooming. IMO, far from either nice or perfect no matter what definition you choose. Overall less cover than opening day: Red, Witch, Black, Magician are all basically bare now. It's going to take more than one storm to put them back in play. Even so, I'll likely be back up there on Sunday in the hope that they blow some more snow and can actually groom it into something other than solid ice.

"Hillman’s Highway: You may have read about this in the morning avalanche advisory. I’ll describe it in a little more detail here just because I think it’s a pretty amazing natural event. Water running beneath the snow hit a choke point or blockage, a little ways below the top of the Christmas Tree (1/3 up the gully). When enough pressure had built, the blockage failed and the gully erupted. The debris from this slush avalanche is impressive, and totally worth a look if you’re in the area with nothing to do. There was enough force to cause debris to overflow the berm on the dogleg and spill out into the trees. It ran farther than the landslide during Hurricane Irene! Not by much, but farther for sure. The debris is a grayish-tan colored mix of sand and gravel and refrozen slush, spanning from one wall to another. In the middle of the gully is a stream, which has frozen over and looks more like a very easy ice climb. If you do go check this out, be very cautious. It’s far easier to climb up than it is to climb down, and falling anywhere in here would definitely be painful."

I hope Alex does well today.
