Heaven's Gate - Fernie
Here we go again.....another new resort proposal in British Columbia. It will be interesting to see how this pans out, especially in terms of the 'faith based' 'global leadership campus'.

funny to me that the usual riff raff that are all up in arms about Jumbo, seem to be okay with this...
what's orange and looks good on hippies?

Apples to oranges.
Were not talking about developing a remote pristine glaciated valley that is an important watershed, ala jumbo. This is in a creek that has been settled for over a hundred years, contains an old coal mine, lots of cutblocks and a garbage dump.
Plus this is awesome, all those blue and black runs should look pretty enticing to all the gorbies currently crowding the liftlines at FAR every weekend......Do what you like, Like what you do.

Who skis on Sundays anyway? I bet you Roi Bannerman doesn't:

Snarky quips aside, I wish Fernie all the best, and hope that any decisions made are based upon popular favour and what will serve the community the best. I just find the religious aspects 'interesting' and I am 'intrigued' to see how things turn out.

Doesn't it end with castration and suicide to catch teh gondola in the comets tail?
I don't work and I don't save, desperate women pay my way.

This Fernie thing is old news... why the bump now?
BTW.... have you ever looked to see how many old mines & cut blocks are in the drainages round Jumbo?
I'm not suggesting Jumbo resort is a good idea but the whole area has a long history of industrial development, i.e. its hardly pristine...

I'd rather see FAR expand to the back side / Fish Bowl before I see another resort in Fernie. Seems like a waste.

So the race is on between Jumbo and Heaven`s gate as to who can find the most rich guy investors with big egos who want to impress their friends. Presumably this is all being with little or no thought about where the real estate and lift ticket buyers are coming from.

Remind me, is Heaven's Gate the people with the purple shrouds and Nikes? If I visit, I want to be properly dressed for apres.

Pray for snow.

Seriously, where did they get that name? Is that already the name for that drainage? They should still change it. Moonlight Basin got away with making their own names for everything.
Yeah, HG was the castration, nike, suicide for a ride on the comet deal. I have a professor who hung out with them back in the 70's. He's full of all kinds of stories of hanging out with cults, survivalists, neonazis and the like.
Sent from my cell phone. no, a cell phone.

I find it hypocritical that all of the non-believers here have nothing to say about the developments being done at COP. They have added 100ft vertical to the hill which has changed the eco-system for ever and not even one pissed off maggot or tree hugging hippy has protested. No one even mentions the new summer luge track being cemented across the slopes....
