The non-shitty dubstep/abstract electronica thread
What have you?
I'm talking dark, slow, abstract electronic: Benga, Mount Kimbie, Eleven Tigers, Clams Casino, have you guys heard of Burial ;P, James Blake, etc.?
If anyone starts posting some lame-ass, post-candy-raver, 303-laden hot-pop-track remix BS I will publicly humiliate your little sister with her pink streaks in her hair and her fairy wings at EDC.
Bring it, with YouTube if available."Climb the mountains and get their good tidings. The winds will blow their freshness into you, and the storms, their energy. Your cares and tensions will drop away like the leaves of Autumn." --John Muir
"welcome to the hacienda, asshole." --s.p.c.

The new Polish Ambassador EP Superpowers is sexy as hell. You can download all his stuff for free too on his website or stream it on SC.

I'm definitely into Holy Other and the entire Tri-Angle catalog, that label is putting out some really quality releases these days.

Dubstep? That's cute.
Leftfield was one of the originators. This is from 13 years ago to the day.

when did dubstep become the catchall phrase?

'Open Up' was my pre-party song for many years... still sounds timeless today with so many others including the 1992 release, 'Song of Life'. Sasha said this about 'Leftism' when it first came out: "If aliens landed on the planet and asked, 'What is dance music?' I would give them that album."
Dubstep was so last year. It's all about trap now.Ski edits | http://vimeo.com/user389737/videos

Actually, "dubstep" is so 1998...
and it's all "jungle" if you really wanna get technical about it. Just seems like every new generation feels the need to come up with a catchphrase for the same old music. It's like Tricky once said "Brand new, you're retro...". Or, basically, everything old is new again and everything new is old.
PS:
Trap is ancient, too. T.I., Three Six Mafia, UGK, Gucci Mane, and the whole Swisha House crew played that ish out years ago.

Early 90s when it was dub at roughly the same tempo and without the old man farting noises if you want to get ultra upper nose on the subject.
And SHM was played out back in 2004 when they were all separate. Basically, they played the music DJ Sneak did but with less taste and a better grasp of the whole social media thing.Ski edits | http://vimeo.com/user389737/videos

The semantics of the thing can be a real bitch. There are some killer producers out there right now making breaky-blippy harmonious stuff that has almost come full circle back to Aphex and his early Ambient works, however, they're still lacking the depth and nuance that RBJ put forward in the 80s. My thought is that ProTools has had a lot to do with this killing of the nuance. It effectively wiped away the analog grit, wax to mp3. I'm still hopeful for what can become of electronic music. Bring it.

Anyone have the link of one of the DJs explaining the different families of music beats? I think that could help some of the less experienced.

These types of threads inevitably end up as a pissing match between people championing their own genres... the term dubstep is pretty toxic... but along the OPs line.
Some free downloads (legal ones) i have enjoyed in the last little while, essentially house, but hey, most underground stuff is nowadays, give it a chance.

Some hyped tunes in the UK
But really all this stuff should be listened to in a mix, thats how the songs are produced, and with a tracklist you can find the ones you like. Here are some goodies for the upcoming season. Rinse fm podcasts are the best source for fresh UK cuts.
