I have to agree with ya. love backcountry, but the new website is not as good as the old... hate to bash but change it back!
Ya can't get hurt in the air, its those sketchy landings that suck.

Huh? Looks the same to me... maybe they're doing a slow rollout?

It's back to normal now. You can still see the new one at: beta.backcountry.com
Just tried to get a little too fancy with it IMO.

Yuck - I agree. The old one was great... no need to change it.

Checked the beta, thought I had clicked REI by mistake.

Looks like a REI clone.
Patagonia has a sweet site.
They need something unique, to match their style. Circular?Terje was right.

Looks like they're going for a more visual and less text-driven layout. Graphically it makes more of an impact, but the huge splash graphic in the middle draws attention away from the navigation options, and some of the colour choices (black text at the top against a dark background image, for example) don't work at all. Pretty, but form over function compared to the current site.

Snowdemon, I agree with you. They are trying for form over function, I was thrown off slightly when I accessed the site and it was different.

That's just dumb... REI has stores all over the country so they get away with having a web site not as good as BackCountry.com's current site.

I checked and I dig it. Spot on about the facebook comment. I've always been in the minority and I've actually liked the FaceSpace changes. Then again, I'm a UX guy ...

i'd call it a successful revamp. any site change is followed by a few weeks of negative feedback before people get used to it.

The new page is a lot clunkier... much like timeline vs old FB. Also, I can't find previous year reviews on items.

New BC.com site is a bit painful and confusing to use. I liked the old site better.
rog - BC.com supports this place, the mags, and a lot of things mags care about. Their employees post here. It is not some faceless soulless evil company.
That said, I support my local shops too.Originally Posted by blurred

I hated it at first, but it grows on you. the search function is wayyy more effective, and they are still dialing things in. much easier to use once you figure it out.

This is true. Let us have it. Nothing's set in stone, and there's a lot of moving pieces and people involved in trying to make this redesign successful. In our eyes, this is just the beginning of much more to come and our customers' feedback is crucial in helping us get it right moving forward. Shoot us an email at theresearchlab@backcountry.com if you want to share more thoughts, or keep bringing the love/hate here. We're listening.

Alright, I'm new here, so don't hold it against me for this being my first post. I'm a regular observer of threads but have never joined in. I'm a UX designer at Backcountry.com and BskiP is right, we're still working on things. Keep the love/hate coming. We're listening. We need your feedback to make it better, so...let us have it.
