Grand Teton hiking/climbing record got shattered today...

Word is 2 hrs, 54 minutes.
No snow (so no skiing down)
    Jeebus fucking Christmas.
Most people do it as an overnight.

I heard someone or a duo was looking to bust it. It seems like last year when going car to car was considered burly. That time is ridiculous.

I'm laying in a tent at lupine meadows right now. Maybe I'll give it a go. In other news, its so smoky here you can barely see the grand from the airport.

    That is amazing.

Car to car what is the distance and elevation gain?

I agree it is a constitutional right for Americans to be assholes...its just too bad that so many take the opportunity...

Wait, is that time to the top, or to the top and back? (I don't know the area, just that there's a big mountain there).
    No longer stuck.

He's an aerobic freak, won Western States 100M run in 2011, won the Mont Blanc ultra, dominated in the past several years ski mountaineering competitions (yeah, there are such things). We have some common friends. Word is that he is a really good guy.

I don't know but I would guess car to car. 3 hours to the summit, while still insane, wouldn't be out of reach or a crazy goal for someone to reach.

Usually has some ice in it until late season, which can complicate things.

Awesome to watch. I climbed it via Exum as a "day" hike and it took 11 hours car to car. I was belaying a friend on the golden staircase and a couple guys walked by and said "hi". I was so amazed, and now this. I am such a pussy.

Just got home, too smokey for me up there. You literally couldn't see the valley floor from the top of the Grand, Moran was invisible. I have black lung now.

i would have third degree burns if i did it without a shirt. i ran down the middle like that in the middle of an electric storm in 95. sky was orange and pink, hail was falling, thunder sounded like the sky was ripping open and i hauled ass down to the car. incredible. i loved running down mountains. half out of control from momentum, fearless rhythm finding the right steps to not snap a leg like a twig or fall a hundred feet.

The comments on that post about Killian's record not being legit because he used shortcuts are stupid, it's a mountain climbing record, you should be able to use whatever route you want. (If you can call a trail shortcut at the bottom a different route)
