I'm not a huge biker but I've worked on bikes in a shop for the last few years and have some very ripping friends who are constantly breaking deraileur's.

IMO, save your coin for components that aren't constantly prone to breakage. For what you'd spend on one "high end" deraileur you're better off buying two or three average ones so as to minimize your downtime. You WILL break the next one you buy. Guaranteed. Unless of course you are like me and don't ride that much or hard.

IMHO I "downgraded" from XT to a SLX Rear Der. and am happy as can be.

FWIW I have never broken a rear Der. but by writing that I am sure to do so now.

XTR is really nice but I can't justify the price.

My Ellsworth doesn't know the difference and I don't either.
I have been in this State for 30 years and I am willing to admit that I am part of the problem.

    How do you know?
Your Ellsworth is a high end bike. My guess is it's well aware that you downgraded it's components and is very sad.
