the callaway gbb epic is the real deal.

For whatever reason (swing mechanics, most likely) I lost about 25 yds with the driver over the course of the last year and have been consistently hitting these extremely high launching, high spinning drives with my trusty old 913D3/ProLaunch red combo. Went from a 275 average to barely squeaking it out past 250.

Instead of seeing a pro I naturally went arrow > indian and sure enough I'm back to hitting 275-290 yd drives consistently again. I have nothing to attribute this to outside of a custom built callaway epic with a low launching matrix shaft. I know the honeymoon period will end at some point but damn I am confident with this thing in my hands.

    Fore! Who's playing golf, yo-

Almost came to blows with 3 complete tools on 1st tee last night.

They tried to jump ahead of me and take my tee time. They were full retard from the start. When they realized they were wrong they got way worse.

Then I had to tee off in front of the crowd that had gathered after all that. Thought for sure I'd pull hook it into the trees...thankfully crushed it down the gut

Best part...I have to play against them soon

"I'd rather be lucky than good". Old Fart Friday Nite league. A one club or maybe one and a half club wind blowing. Parched, hard fairways. 5 of the greens sloping front to back. A lot of under/over club guessing to bounce it on after convincing myself I had the right club. I yelled at the ball to bounce right or left and it obeyed. Made 35' of putts in two strokes. 3 birds, no boges for a 33. Woot Woot. Golf is like going to the casino. Play often enough an long enough and you might win big.

    Nice work

I haven't broken par this year. Came into 18 one under couple weeks ago and doubled it...par 5 too. I'm playing really well...only small misses if I'm not feeling it completely.

For some reason I'm a disaster on par 5s this year. I can easily reach 90% of them in 2 from the tips but I've managed to set some sort of record for bogeys on par 5s...and zero eagles

My expectations are really high everytime I tee it up this time of year.

Played nine with my 11 y/o daughter yesterday. Really happy to get her out there. She had some good shots, and had fun. I had 3 birdies. Good times.

An observation after many, many rounds. 14 hc amateurs and even beginning duffers can pull off miracle recovery shots the first time they try it if given the proper setup and swing thought. But only the first time. First time I tried to hit a shot under a tree and across a pond fronting the green by skipping it on the water, it rolled on to 5'. I've drowned abut 50 balls trying to duplicate that. Open faced 9 iron from a shallow bunker 50 yds from the green with the pin far right, aiming 15 yds left of the pin, the ball hit and spun hard right to a makeable distance. The first time a partner tried slamming a PW into the sand under the ball to pop out a buried lie on a steep upslope of a greenside bunker onto the green, it went in.

What insane shots have you pulled off or observed? More than once earns extra points.

I'd consider myself a master of a 4/5 iron shaped punch. I'm going for the flag more often than not

About 5 yrs ago I hit into solid forest about 150 from flag. I saw a lane that was 3 -4 ft wide and was about 75 yds of woods...Probably 20 something trees to go through. Was feeling really confident that day and went for it.

Ran it thru the lane of trees to about 15 ft. Probably missed the putt

Nothing better than a perfect shot around/under/over trees. It's why I refuse to use anything but bladish irons (mizuno mp)

I've also dunked quite a few approaches . Somehow never had a hole in one. I could write a book about the countless almosts...lip outs from 225...2 inches from the cup and behind the hole...Too many close ones

    Fore! Who's playing golf, yo-

Spending 3 nights, 4 days in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina and I don't know how we don't get to play golf at all.
There are 10 golf courses within 20 mile stretch, but the heat and afternoon shower screw up everything.
    Sucks.
    I blame the eclipse.

Your whole existence up to this point did not prepare you for this sort of disappointment and resulting failure.......

    how?

Played with my Dad and daughter at Foxtail North. Fun times. Shot an 88 with a crappy short game, so I had that going for me, which is nice...

Just got called on to fill a slot on the Tin Cup GC & Country Store team for the Valley Cup Series. The last time I played in a Golf Club competition using my GHIN was, well we were all using metal shafts by then. Funny you should show up 54-46. I was going to ask for advice on how mentally prep for and mentally walk up to a 3' slider that means everything to the team. Now I'm not sure. But go ahead.

You ever read the Bob Rotella golf psychology books? Some people find them helpful.

Routine is everything. Find a routine that grounds you and follow it. The rest is external shit you don't need to pay attention to.

Today I paid no attention to my routine. I was focused on making sure my kid was having a good time and my dad wasn't shanking (or distracted by my kid)

Bingo!! Thanks for that reminder. I have a good preshot routine that I usually only do about 50% of. I'll give it the full monte and wear a real golf shirt. And hit 100, ball at a ball, 3 footers in the living room. Key for me right now.
