So got to play Nanea on the big island today. It’s not one of the top 100 courses because they don’t submit it (they don’t want the publicity) and not enough people play it. Created by Charles Schwab and George R Roberts about 16 years ago, designed by David McLay Kidd (who also did Bandon Dunes). I only got out here because of a random family friend connection to Roberts. It’s the most immaculate / manicured course I’ve ever played, right up there with San Francisco Golf Club.

    It was awesome...

So sick. I have heard of that course before. Supposedly top 10 in the USA, easily, if they ever let it get ranked.

    How'd you play?

Left a few more shots out there than I should have due to some dumb mistakes, but pretty well for the first time. 81 with 2 drops and a chip out. Probably should have been in the mid to high 70’s the way I was hitting it. Tough course, especially around the greens with some massive Augusta-like breaks / reads. You did not want to short-side yourself.

finally made another birdie. it's been months. 470 yd downhill dogleg right par 5, hit a perfect drive, 180 to the front for the second, hit a 5 solid but hung it out a little right and ended up pin high but in 20' away in the greenside first cut. hit a perfect chip that missed eagle by an inch and tap in for birdie.

i feel super close to finally breaking through 90. everything is heading in the right direction.

Unless someone gets on Augusta or Shadow Creek in Vegas, I think Nutmegchoi has set the bar?

    Where are you referring to?

Also: lol re: Shadow Creek in the same sentence as Augusta. Did you mean Cyprus Point?

Shadow Creek is in my head. My brother was at a trade show and his boss asked him to find a customer to fill a foresome at the last minute. Bro said he didn't even make a call, he just showed up at the course to fill the slot.

"Best" that I've played is Bay Hill. The most exclusive was a private course north of Utica NY that another brother belonged to. Less than 100 members. 9 holer at the end of a dirt road. Only building was a bathroom and you needed a key. Hill and dale layout with a lot of bare lies and descent greens with 2 holes on each green. Had the course to ourselves.

I would love to play St. Andrews Old Course one day.
Could dream about Augusta but highly doubt it’ll ever happen.

Tough thing about Augusta is it’s only open, what, 4-5 months of the year? And then part of that is dominated by the whole lead up to the tournament. Friend of mine played out there a few years ago... I’m hoping if he gets another shot I can go with him this time.

That seems kinda limited from 200 yards in... especially when you drive it that far.
