Not sure if this is the right path for my natural swing but I’m gonna give it a try.
I just don’t understand why my body wouldn’t move the way I want it to.
I don’t feel like I’m asking much!!! Argh!!

To answer your questions get a Functional Movement Screen done. Enna Rushe at Bio-Sport Technology in Cos-Cob is highly recommended.

The results will indicate if and how to improve mobility.

Personally I think there is way to much emphasis on the swing. I have played with a lot of very good players who’s swings don’t look good. However, they all do one thing well, they all hit it in the middle of the club face, most of the time. I’d rather have an ugly swing and hit it flush, than a pretty swing that produces miss hits.

    Fore! Who's playing golf, yo-

My teacher says I use why too much upper body and it can cause back injury.
She wants me to swing simple, easy and compact.
That simple, easy and compact is not so easy to do.
    She’s doing it, but I can’t.
    At least not just yet.

She did warn me not to worry about the distance and score for a while and be patient.
    All hard to do.

I just had a GREAT week of golf in Utah, where golf wasn't even close to the main point of the trip.

Sand Hollow is justifiably famous for the crazy holes on the back 9, but the front 9 might be better golf. Just astoundingly good hole after hole after hole...and I realized after the fact that it was designed by John Fought, who also designed Windsong Farm in MN, where my brother is a member, and which is also a phenomenal course that just doesn't quit.

    Sand Hollow

    The Ledges

Then after the Ledges, I rode with the kid, for a pretty sweet multisport day:

    The Country Club in SLC

And then it was 72 in Missoula yesterday and we played 27 at our home course, which was in incredible shape for this point in the year. Can't complain for March, and I have a LOT of great golf coming up this season.

Nice, SLCC was high on my list of want to plays when I lived in the Rockies. How is it?

It was great and in tremendous condition for late March. My host was incredibly knowledgeable about the course, its history, strategy, etc. He called it a "second-shot course" and that was true. Most of the tee shots were relatively straightforward, though I did hit hybrid a lot, but the second shots really gave me pause every time. The greens are extremely well protected and I did not play that well. The routing is really interesting with a lot of unique holes. It is one of those courses that has a valley/lake effect where all the putts seem to break toward the lake, even when your intuition would tell you otherwise.

The one fairly significant downside is that I-80 is ON TOP of a couple of the holes on the back. That might be mitigated somewhat when the trees leaf out, but it was kind of intense at times.

Thanks to the folks who have PM'd me. My daughter has about 6 dozen ProV1s and about 6 dozen ProV1s left.

If anyone wants other brands/models, let me know and I'll check with her. (Looks like she has Callaway (Chrome Soft), other Titleist models (AVX, Velocity), and Taylor Made TP5, and random others good for chipping bags, like Kirkland, Vice, etc.) Prices and availability would be lower/less.

The Pro V1's look great. Thanks 54-46! Hopefully some good funds are generated for your daughters scouts.

They almost made it...snow arrived on the 14th, they looked plenty cold as they called it on the 16th and drove back to the clubhouse.

What course(s) in Missoula are worth checking out? I've heard Canyon River is pretty nice

I'm a new golfer, so I'll leave it to Rootskier for the better advice.

I've played 9 at Canyon River and it was a good course with nice views.

Larchmont is the city course and while basic was better than expected. And a good price.

I'm at Ranch Club. Private, but I think easy to get on (unsure about pricing). If I'm around I can host you.

I wouldn't discount short drives for small courses with good views, I have several that I'm eyeing for later this summer. (Polson, St Ignatius, St. Regis, Plains, etc.)

Canyon River and Larchmont, a muni, are the only two public 18-hole courses in town. Canyon is way, way better. In fact, we were just talking about this the other day, and I think Canyon might be one of the best-conditioned public non-resort courses I have ever played.
