whitewater insights on whitefish, crested butte
I'm moving to either Crested Butte or Whitefish in a year, and I was wondering which has better paddling. Any insight on either place would be much appreciated. If anyone has paddled both, it would be great to hear from you.

Crested Butte if u like steep creeking, slides and some really good stuff for a really short 6 wk window.
Whitefish if u like big water, full on rapids, big water playboating on the Kootenai and some year round surfing nearby.
Both are not bad, Whitefish u need to be willing and able(no dui) to go to Canada for skiing and kayaking. Crested Butte is a better local ski hill for sure but big mountain is quality in whitefish. Both are good really, whitefish has a much longer season though and CB has better local skiing.

hav to agree w/previous response but will add that if you are willing to drive for your eddies whitefish sits close to some great paddling up in BC and AB...tons of creeks and some really great stuff w/in a few hours of wfish...and like the previous poster said, we have a long season up here...kootenai goes year round and the elk just over the border goes well into the fall...
