Yes. Considering trading in my current Viper for this new one. First car that has ever made me think that. I think this has to be on my top ten list of best looking cars ever.

That is a beauty. It favors the Ferrari California and that is a good thing. I hope it handles better than the prior generation

With 600+ HP/torque I imagine it'll still be terrifying to drive regardless of any handling/ETS improvements. That'll get out from under you in a heartbeat.

I don't care if that gets .5 miles to the TANK of gas. That's an awesome awesome example of american muscle. Love it.

That thing DOES have Ferrari coupe written all over it. Seems penned right from the desk of Pininfarina. It's amazing what sweeping back the rear pillar and sharpening up the nose does to the car. Still has the signature front brake ventilation at the forward door section (are those even working ventilation, Kai, or are they simply cosmetic?). By far the best-looking Viper yet, IMO, at least from the side.

Jimmy Carter...sheer power is NOT necessarily an ingredient of an unwieldy car. Look at the newest Bugatti Veyron...now about 1240 hp...and yet it evidently handles that awesome power with a svelte equinimity. Of course, with $175,000 just in braking system alone, and who knows what $$$ in suspension goodies, the new Veyron might not be a valid example. But, even with all the pro Nissan GT-R yada yada comments continually levied against the Veyron...it remains a SUPERLATIVE feat of engineering.

But as far as looks, I'd save a few bucks and go with that new, gorgeous Viper anyday....that thing is sizzling.

Kai: Top ten most beautiful cars EVER, though??? As beautiful as it is, that's a pretty tall order when you're competing against cars such as Ferrari's 330 P4, as below, or the Jaguar E-type roadster, or the 1936 Auburn boattail Speedster, or Duesenberg SSJ...I mean, we're talking TEN cars, not fifty.

But STILL, I wouldn't turn one down!!!! And it SURE doesn't remind me of that ugly bat-mobile.

I'm sort of preferential to this particular 2013 Viper SRT GTS-R that is being prepped for LeMans?

I also think it's time that Carrol Shelby is invited in to tinker with the 2013 model.

At any rate....I think in terms of engineering and design....CHRYSLER'S BACK !!!!!!

Veyron is AWD and designed to keep the car pinned to the ground at high speed.
Viper is RWD and without serious tuning (ACR) is less inclined to do so.

A friend of the ex entertained me one evening with stories of street racing teenagers on rice rockets with his original SRT. And winning.

Either the teenagers where total hacks (or were riding mopeds), or the ex's friend was a liar.

    Looks like a Viper with a nose-job.

Well, some hackness on the schoolboys' part was probably involved, but, those things do 0-60 as fast as a Ninja, and corner much better.

The louvers at the front door section are functional. At least they are on the previous generation cars, and I doubt they would be non-functional in this one.

As for handling, the Viper's reputation as an ill-handling brute is only partly justified. The first generation Viper was pretty much a crude handling car. From the GTS Coupe onward, however, the Viper handled pretty well. However, it was not necessarily easy to drive if you weren't used to it. It was set up pretty much like a race car, with very stiff suspension. Very small driver inputs result in pretty dramatic consequences if you aren't careful. The folks who raced Vipers and spent a lot of time in them tended to really like their handling, but it took quite a while to get used to it. A Viper never has been a car that you can expect to hop into for the first time and drive well. (No stability control + big torque + uber stiff suspension + inexperienced driver = trouble.) It's for this reason that you have a bit of a dichotomy between the folks who raced the car (very successfully) and the motor sports journalists who only got to spend a few hours with the car. I've driven a number of high performance cars. The Viper is definitely the one with the steepest learning curve. However, once you are comfortable and familiar with it, I find it to be the most rewarding and best handling of all.

Top ten best looking ever? Probably not. The problem is that from the early days through the 60's there are just too many (very low volume) beautiful cars.

    From 1970 onward, maybe.

What would be on that post 1970 list?

I can't even get to 10 cars from 1970 onward that I find really beautiful.

    Ford GT
    Ferrari GTO
    Ferrari F40
    McLaren F1
    Aston Martin One-77
    Jaguar XJ220
    Triumph TR6
    2013 Viper GTS

    Anything else?

Any word on price yet? I should assume Chrysler is targeting the Corvette ZR1 at about $110,000.

If I paying up for American muscle the Camaro ZL1 is better bang for the buck. 580 hp for $55,000.

All depends on the "street race." Light-tol-ight the Viper will win (Vettes too) over 600cc bikes by having all that torque and none of that flippin-over-backwrds launch problem. Bet the bike is pulling up fast at the light, tho.

And a well-ridden bike is every not much less nimble than a 4000lb car.

Liter-class bikes and especially big V-twins have so much fucking torque for their weight (my 400lb motorcycle has 100ft/lbs of torque, S&S Harley motors often have 130-150+. Do the math.)

Maybe it's just me, but that is not a good looking car. I dont really like from any angle.
The proportions look off to my eye. The whole thing looks goofy, the profile especially

Looks a lot like the 599 from many angles.
