Two more years in NJ. Jobs?

So, my amazing keeper of a girlfriend just got accepted to school, which means I am trapped in the dirty for 2 more years. I have a job currently which will increase in pay to about 50k in May. I don't particularly like the work and its 60+ hours/week with one day off. The girl and I want to gtfo as soon as she graduates May 2014.

I would like to find anything with decent pay that will give me some kind of transferable experience into the ski industry when I get back to CO. I want to get a "real" job when I get out there.

Any leads for a 28yo with managerial and various labor experience in norther nj / NYC?

Any particular industry? I don't know of any specific openings, but have you tried any of the big medical guys in the area? Stryker, J&J, Colgate, Merck, etc? There's also Picatinny-Arsennal in Morris County that might be worth looking into.

While NJ might suck, it is definitely job central. Probably no better place to find a job... I can't comment on the ski industry, but I would try to find a company that has locations in CO that you can transfer to.

sales rep? resort ops? event manager? Lots of outdoor industry jobs in NJ if you open your head up past "ski" only.
malakye.com is your friend as is outdoor industry association and others like it. Drive around, make a list of where you would like to work. Lots of outdoor parks there too. Ranger? Camp counselor? Youre looking for something transferrable to the ski industry Im sure you can figure something out. Probably some great sports video opportunities somewhere around there. Call up giants stadium and brendan byrne arena and run cable and work your way up to camera. get on the phone, go to mixers, get off the interwebz. People get cool jobs from people they meet and know. the resume is dead.

Old devils fan? Sadly, it's not what it once was. Was later the Continental Airlines Arena and now the Izod center, I think they only use it for a few concerts a year now.

But yeah, all good tips there. There are definitely opportunities to be had.

HR? Seems like the resorts are always looking for people with that "skill" set.

Really shouldn't limit myself to any industry. Just looking for something moderately enjoyable, or something that is steering me in that direction and will allow me to live in or very close to the mountains.

My current line of work has no future outside of NJ.

Ups. I check malakye every day. It seems to be sales rep with 3-5 years exp. only. Any leads/ideas?

Fall bump. Looking for a second/night job. Can't really support 2 people on 50k in NJ. Need to save money so we can move when the lady graduates.

Shitshow, you should look into food stamps and housing assistance. Sounds like you would qualify. Sure beats burning the candle at both ends.

I don't qualify. I "make too much" money. Just gotta sack up and go on the oscar meyer and ramen diet.....and stop riding/building bikes that I can't afford.

You gotta game the system bro. Nobody ever tells the state how much they really make. I know a guy clearing $75K with over $200K in the bank collecting food stamps.
