Love the old-school vibe! I want a silver jacket like Bob Griswold is sporting in that K2 video.

    That is some nice footage.

Here is something from Engelberg in 1980. Skiing the Galtiberg (~2000 m descent from Titlis down to the valley).

I was watching that K2 demo video and had itunes playing this track by accident at the same time.

I had a double take thinking that they nailed the soundtrack so well back in '71.

    Perfect match

-Thanks for posting those vids, I'm not that old but it does take me back to the time when I fell in love with the sport.

If you haven't seen Last Of The Ski Bums, you really owe it to yourself to track it down. It's my favorite ski porno ever.

    Good stuff - Thank you.

I'm (gonna) look for The Performers on-line -

for some reason it feels to me like the first Schmidt footage from WarrenMiller's 'SkiTime' might qualify as 'old school', though perhaps it was actually the end of 'Old school's

Thank you for this thread. skiJ

I've found a few clips from The Performers online, but never the whole film. Think you can still get it here on DVD though...

Real old school, covering late 1800's through late 1930's:

I just finished reading Lowell Skoog's Written in the Snows, which covers much of the PNW ski history. This film has footage from the 1934 Silver Skis race on Mt Rainier, the 1935 National Championship held on Rainier. Also a good segment at 1hr 10min mark on the Ski Hayden development that never was. Coincidentally, the new owners of Ski Hayden's Highland Bavarian lodge just commissioned a documentary on the lodge/ski area history that will hopefully be out this year. They struck a deal with the County to "preserve" the lodge in exchange for additional development rights.
