    TR: Mount Duke couloir, Caspar Creek... 02/14/12 DAY OF LOVE!

    Holly Walker, Kate Covello and I toured up Caspar Creek on Valentine's day to ski a couloir that Kate and I spied on a trip up to the same area last Saturday. The moment I saw the couloir on Saturday my immediate thought was "I must climb and ski that." So I did. There was about a 2" wind crust/slab from the light snow that fell on Sunday but overall the snow was very stable and avalanche conditions were rated low through the alpine. We left the car at 8:15 and were at the top of the couloir at about 2:45. It was a good, looooong day and our boyfriends were probably jealous they didn't get to come. We're not sure if the couloir has a name, so here are some valentines-themed ones we came up with on the lengthy skin to our destination: the Aorta, Chute through the Heart, Cupid's Arrow, Tunnel of Love, etc, etc.
