What's Causing One Of The Warmest, Driest Winters In History
for a reasoned article read here: http://www.scientificamerican.com/ar...ing-dry-winter
for a reasoned discourse, read below:

Another article I read talked about the 11 year sun cycles, and this year is the peak.
The sun's waves of radiation FOR SURE, alter the jet streams and the even more important, the pressure oscillations and patterns.Terje was right.

Some quality comments...
"Garbage. The lowest ice extent in modern history was the 2006/2007 season. Ice extent is considerably ahead this season. If your theory was correct, why did these conditions not occur back then. Ice cover at present is rapidly increasing while at the same point in the year of the smallest extent, it was declining. At the present rate this seasons ice extent will surpass the earlier maximum at least three weeks earlier. More inconvenient truths. http://nsidc.org/data/seaice_index/images/daily_images/N_stddev_timeseries.png"
2006/2007 was the last shitty ski season, so I fully concur.

i've not been eating beans for the past month in hopes i can get the methane up here lower. i think i may have overdone it...
how many temperature records did we break this winter so far? the stupid jet stream has been this far north for so long, we have registered 50+ wind warnings so far for AB and NWT vs 7 in a normal year.

Too late. Looks like it's over. Cold as shit in the East and the west is getting some this week. Except Tahoe. Poor Tahoe.

It's not so much the model year, it's the high mileage or meterage to keep the youth of Canada happy

The 11-year solar irradiance cycle probably affects climate, but not much.
http://earthobservatory.nasa.gov/Features/SORCE/
~0.06% amplitude on an 11-year cycle. I think you'd be hard pressed to link that with anything observable.Last edited by theshredder; 01-16-2012 at 02:31 AM. Reason: its ~0.06 not 0.03...

I've been riding powder for a month now, the trees are full of fluffy goodness up here. It's been cold and windy with powder blowing off the top of the mtn and settling in the trees. 3" up top has been more like 11" in the trees. We have no snow down low, and I've definitley hit some rocks, but I'm not complaining.
Bring on the next storm baby.

This is totally caused by my wife and I.
Having worked through the last two unbelievable winters, we re-arranged our lives to be able to take most of this winter off to ski. bada bing , no snow anywhere.

Sometimes fear just means that you need to push your shins into the front of your ski boots and fuckin send it!
