    Hakuba, Japan 2012 Season

Some post-storm skiing in the Hakuba area from the past few days.

    http://unofficialnetworks.com/contou...a-japan-64856/

Its snowing again as I write this, so tomorrow should be good again.

I'll try to add more stoke as the season continues.

loving the posts, keep 'em coming.
Battle lines being drawn, nobody’s right if everybody’s wrong, old people speaking their minds, getting so much resistance from behind.

Good on you for showcasing Hakuba's terrain (without the seemingly obligatory added promotional links and mentions of everything from pizza shops to pedicures). Keeping it real.

And good on you for being a way better skier than most people (includingmebutthatgoeswithoutsaying).

Pity those less skilled in the ways of weather+snow+terrain who try to replicate you though.

Good conditions recently. Who needs continuous storms. Stable soft snow on textured steep terrain for the win at the moment.

Forgot to mention: smile and nod from me when I saw 0:32-0:37.

It was all good, but that one turn to hit just drew me in. I could feel it.

    Nice!
I'll be there in just 9 days with my touring gear.
Added to the list: plastic bags and straps for the boots!
Are lines the one shown easy to find? (never been there)
How is the snowpack so far (stability wise)?

    Thanks

    Nice terrain and flow
I need to go to Utah.
    Utah?
Yeah, Utah. It's wedged in between Wyoming and Nevada. You've seen pictures of it, right?

So after 15 years we finally made it to Utah.....

Thanks BCSAR and POWMOW Ski Patrol for rescues

Ah now I see why those Atlas'es needed a bit of an edge sharpen!

Looks like a passably nice neighbourhood that will be adequate for needs

Yes Lee, both the rocky ridges and the skiing on roads dulled those edges. And a gummy stone.

Mostly ridge humps and short movements out of bounds for those great lines. Touring gear helps at times, but no touring required. Which is pretty much what Hakuba does best. I personally prefer to tour, but you usually don't need to. Down side is a lot of easy access terrain is also our riskier terrain.

Good avalanche conditions most of this season. No major problems so far. Yesterday had great settled creamy powder on shaded aspects and Low danger rating below tree line. Nice to get stability + ski quality + loads of untracked touring terrain.

As of this week Hakuba now has a long overdue avalanche bulletin. Anyone familiar with Canadian bulletins will immediately get a lot of info from it, however English translations are coming soon.

The summary information can be found here. The detailed bulletin can be found by clicking on the summary heading or text, or the link that says "more" (in Japanese).

    Great info! Thanks.
If you guys see someone with older Armada JJ mounted with dynafits ( I guess not too many ) that would be me! I'll split my time between Happo one and Hakuba 47 I think. It that what you guys would recommend for a first trip?

    Super excited!

    Was looking pretty today:

But we skied something else less interesting and got skunked with super flat light and that drugged useless feeling you get as a result. The colour white still scares me. Freakin skied face first into a spine today that I didn't even see. Buried my head in it.
