We're definitely going to war again...

Did you see W's inaugural speech? All he talked about was our responsibility to bring freedom to the rest of the world. He might as well have ended with "Fuck you Iran. We're coming for you next!"

C.S. Lewis made an observation applicable to do-gooders everywhere, "Of all tyrannies a tyranny exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It may be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience."

    What, the "war on terror"?

We are occupying Iraq. That means that the skirmishes that are going on there are "policing actions" not "war."

wow...never thought a C.S. Lewis quote would end up here. Very interesting perspective that Mr. Lewis had - I can't say I disagree with him.

actually we're just one day gonna pack all our shit up in "East Texistan" and drive it across the border to "New Louiran."

Where we'll be greeted with flowers as liberators.

I feel so bad for our young men and women over there. Getting roped into such a clusterfuck. Our VA's are gonna be full of crazies in about 5-10 years. Sad.

    I think you meant "fuller"....

The VA is already having difficulty meeting the needs (or as close as it comes to meeting them) of our veterans.

    does anybody find this starnge?

    W. Claims the terrorist hate us because we're free or whatever they hate democracy or some bs like that. I'm going with what ossama said, he wants the US to stop supporting isreal (wich might be smart, thats a whole nother discussion though) and he wants muslim controll of spain, not to destroy America, how do I know this? Because thats what he said.

    Come you masters of war
You that build the big guns
You that build the death planes
You that build all the bombs
    You that hide behind walls
    You that hide behind desks
I just want you to know
I can see through your masks

    You that never done nothin'
    But build to destroy
    You play with my world
    Like it's your little toy
You put a gun in my hand
And you hide from my eyes
And you turn and run farther
    When the fast bullets fly

    Like Judas of old
    You lie and deceive
A world war can be won
    You want me to believe
But I see through your eyes
And I see through your brain
Like I see through the water
    That runs down my drain

    You fasten the triggers
    For the others to fire
Then you set back and watch
When the death count gets higher
    You hide in your mansion
    As young people's blood
    Flows out of their bodies
And is buried in the mud

    You've thrown the worst fear
    That can ever be hurled
    Fear to bring children
    Into the world
    For threatening my baby
    Unborn and unnamed
    You ain't worth the blood
    That runs in your veins

    How much do I know
    To talk out of turn
You might say that I'm young
    You might say I'm unlearned
But there's one thing I know
    Though I'm younger than you
    Even Jesus would never
    Forgive what you do

Let me ask you one question
    Is your money that good
    Will it buy you forgiveness
Do you think that it could
    I think you will find
When your death takes its toll
    All the money you made
Will never buy back your soul

And I hope that you die
    And your death'll come soon
    I will follow your casket
    In the pale afternoon
And I'll watch while you're lowered
    Down to your deathbed
And I'll stand o'er your grave
'Til I'm sure that you're dead
Its not that I suck at spelling, its that I just don't care

Was just thinking about that song. A true classic... Some of the strongest lyrics ever I think.

    More quotes of note:
“Naturally, the common people don’t want war; neither in Russia nor in England nor in America, nor for that matter in Germany. That is understood. But, after all, it is the leaders of the country who determine the policy and it is always a simple matter to drag the people along, whether it is a democracy or a fascist dictatorship or a Parliament or a Communist dictatorship, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is tell them they are being attacked and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. It works the same way in any country.”

Yeah, AKPM! Classic tune. If you've never heard it performed by Eddy Vedder, download it today. He dials it.

Not sure if anyone listened to Talk of the Nation this morning on NPR. They were asking both Repubs and Dems how they were recognizing the inauguration.

A guy called in on the Republican line (they had separate lines set up) and began talking about how much he despised "Liberal Hate" and how the Liberals needed to finally learn Conservative "Values" and that liberals were welcome into their churches. He talked about Bush's "mandate" and that that Bush didn't need to "pretend" any longer.

It was perhaps the single most frightening bit of dialogue I've heard in a while. What the hell is happening to our country??

Actually, Mr. Gotz, I've found that it's the quiet, shy, intellectual lady who's the rowdy, tear-your-sheets and bruise your chest rodeo freak.

Feel free to rebuke my claim.
