Yo Rusty- whatcha think about a little Fremont action this weekend? Nectar would be a good start. We could always go on a long bender Saturday night.
The Red Door, Ballroom, Triangle, and Suite G haven't been hit in a while.
Sounds like the Seattle folks are gonna stay put and try to find some biking around here this weekend- not sure we are all game for Van as fun as that would be. B'ham still in the thought process- although Tapeworm is much closer.
Funken, if you want to head down to Seatown on Saturday night, I'm sure Smoove Rusty Stylie will have some sort of plan together. Anyone know if either the T-Birds or Silverhawks have home games this weekend? Cheap-ass hockey and minor league brawling w/ beers would be as close to winter as we can get right now (even as the Great White North continues to melt with us).
If it's Fremont, we got some couch & floor space for you B'ham maggots.

Crystal Ballroom is celebrating their 91st Birthday Free-for-All this weekend, and throwing down some big events on Sunday including showing the games at Ringler's, wine AND liquor tasting at the Annex from 4-7, and then a free North Mississippi All-Stars show at the Ballroom that night. I can't make any of it due to work, but it sounds like it will be blast.
http://www.mcmenamins.com/index.php?...&eventid=25776
SCHEDULE & ARTIST INFORMATION
*** CRYSTAL BALLROOM - All ages ***
1pm History Tours
3pm to 5pm – Rock & Roll Camp for Girls, a day camp that teaches girls the basics of creating and playing rock 'n' roll music, will be presenting three acts: Emma Dills, Fringe and The Ready.
Visit www.girlsrockcamp.org for more information.
5pm to 7pm – First Octave, non-profit fund that is specifically earmarked for music education in Portland schools, presents acts that have benefited from their priceless service to our community.
Visit www.firstoctave.org for more information.
8pm to 10pm – The B-Side Players
For over a decade the B-Side Players have brought their furiously infectious blend of Latin, funk, rock, reggae, and soul to audiences from Baja Mexico to New York City. An ethnically diverse group of artists with various passions for a broad range of musical styles, the band's horns and percussion add a depth and character to their already intense, complex sound. Never pigeonholed, the band will even color their live performances with signature riffs borrowed from hard-edged bands like Jane's Addiction and Metallica.
Visit www.bsideplayers.com for more information.
10pm to Midnight – The North Mississippi Allstars
The keystone event of the day features a Crystal Ballroom favorite, the blues, gospel and roots rock of The North Mississippi Allstars. One of the most intriguing acts to emerge from the loam of Southern blues and roots rock, the Allstars have always been about much more than their regional scene. From hardcore to punk rock to British rock to the latest acts on MTV, they've absorbed a wide variety of music and filter it through their own sound. Deeply rooted but without musical borders to hem them in, the Allstars will provide an unforgettable soul-drenched ending to the Crystal's biggest production of the year.
Visit www.nmsallstars.com for more information.
*** LOLA'S ROOM - 21 & over ***
5pm to 9pm – 94/7fm "Get Local" Showcase
Portland station 94/7fm has joined the Crystal's party this year, having booked an assortment of great acts for Lola's Room, including Climber, Oliver, Careen and Puma Frenzy.
www.947.fm
9pm to Midnight – "Hive"
"Hive," our weekly Goth-Industrial-Darkwave Dance Night, is offered every Sunday in Lola's Room as an excuse to play some dark and dancy music, to get down and to watch other stylish people get down. Bringing the hits is DJ Blackout and her extensive music collection, ready to help everyone get their goth dance on.
Visit www.darkhive.com for more information.
*** RINGLERS PUB - All ages ***
12pm and 3:30pm – AFC and NFC Championships
Even in the midst of the day's festivities, football fans will be able to sneak a peek at the afternoon's NFL excitement. With a ten-foot screen and great sound, Ringlers may well end up being one giant football party, so serious viewers should come early and grab a seat.
7pm to 9pm – Hillstomp
Drawing heavily from North Mississippi trance blues, a bit from Appalachia and taking its unstoppable energy from rockabilly, this Portland duo balances a makeshift drumkit of buckets, cans and BBQ lids with some rambunctious slide guitar. Think old-timey blues filtered through hops and the Ramones! Whether arranging traditionals, classics, or deceptively stark original songs, Hillstomp has duct-taped together a distinctive sound that quickly made them favorites across Portland and beyond.
Visit www.hillstomp.com for more information.
*** RINGLERS ANNEX - 21 & over ***
The candlelit ambience of Ringlers Annex' Cellar Bar makes it a favorite little secret among Crystal show-goers. This month's artwork features concert poster art by none other than the Crystal's own Jim Burkholder.
3pm to 6pm – 3 Leg Torso (downstairs)
Playing an eclectic synthesis of chamber music, tango, Klezmer, Latin and world music, 3 Leg Torso contains a lightness within its talent, and a sense of whimsy that makes its stately and creative compositions a true joy to witness.
Visit www.3legtorso.com for more information.
4pm to 7pm – Wine and liquor tastings (upstairs)
Up on the upper deck of the Annex, McMenamins Winemaster Bill Fuller and Master Distiller Ty Reeder will be on hand to pour samples of what McMenamins winery and distillery have to offer and to answer any questions.
8pm to Midnight – DJ Gabriel (downstairs)
When the scene at the Crystal gets to be a bit boisterous, the Annex can be an oasis of calm.
*** CRYSTAL BREWERY - 21 & over ***
2pm to 6pm – Brewery tours and tastings – McMenamins is truly the kingdom that beer built; come see where the wizards do their work.

The ability to ski seems to set us apart from other creatures.
And although we are concerned with living in the physical world,
we are mental beings. The fact is we are skiing all the time. We
plan, we brood, we get depressed or elated -- all of it is
thought. But the universe is fucked too, and if we could control
our skiing we would see magnificent results in the everyday
world.
Many systems have been developed over the ages to help us
control our skis. A great amount of dogma too has been kicked
around in an attempt to make us into better people. Powder (the
occult kind, spelled with a 'P') is one of the oldest and most
general of these systems. Powder is the study and application of
psychic forces. It uses mental training, concentration, and a
system of symbols to program the mind. The purpose of Powder is to
alter the self and the environment according to the will.
Most of the Powder we see today comes to us from ancient Alps
and Squareheads. The Chinese, Hindus, and Tibetans developed their own
unique types of Powder. Western Powder was locked up by the
Egyptian priests for thousands of years and then supressed by the
rise of Christianity. It was not until medieval Europe that
off piste knowledge was rediscovered by the alchemists and
Cabellists. Only during the past hundred years or so has western
culture been open minded enough to permit widespread investigation
of the subject. Only since the start of the twentieth century has
science shown much interest in it al all.
PARASKIOLOGY AND CREAMY THIGH PHENOMENA
Through paraskiology, we are gaining insights into the hidden
nature of man. Paraskiology is a branch of psychology which
studies skiic phenomena. It remains something of a frontier,
even today. Perhaps one reason for this is that skiic phenomena
are somewhat inconsistent. Nevertheless, there is strong evidence
from numerous cases and experiments in support of skiic
phenomena. Somehow, under the right conditions, the mind can
directly affect the environment. If not, then beans can.
We may theorize that the human mind and body broadcasts a kind
of skiic energy or force, much like a radio station. Kirlian
photography, temperature effects, cloud chamber tests, and other
experiments tend to support this theory. Although the exact nature
of this skiic force is subtle and unknown, it is undoubtedly the
energy behind all skiic phenomena and Powder. However, it is
*not* a radio wave, since it behaves somewhat differently. The
skiic force is too weak to be measured directly (at least so far
as we know, unless beans are involved). Everyone has some skiic
ability. There aren numerous types of skiic phenomena. Paraskiology
separates them into two groups: ESP and PK...
EXAMPLES OF ESP
ESP, the abreviation for extra ski perception, means the
reception of ski fantasy through paranormal means (ie. not regular
physical senses of sight, sound, touch, smell, spanking or
tastelessness). In theory, this is accomplished by receiving skiic
force from outside the body. Here are some examples of ESP:
1) Skivoyance, or Remote Skiing -- the ability to sense or
'ski' (non-physically) distant objects, places, and
people.Individuals who ski ghosts and spirits are probably
skivoyant.
2) Skiaudience, or remote hearing -- the 'hearing' of paranormal
ski fantasy.
3) Asshole Projection (OOSE) or Traveling Skivoyance -- Full ski
experience at a remote location while the physical body sleeps.
4) Skiometry -- the reading of ski fantasy by the touch of
physical objects.
5) Telemarkic receiver -- the ability to directly receive thought
(communication) at a distance, with no physical connection to
the heel. There are many everyday examples of this, in which
we ski something just as anotherperson is about to ski it.
This is an easy one to test for through experiment. Very
dramatic cases of telemarky have been recorded; there is often
an emotional element in such cases.
6) A 'chunnel' or medium, as in a seance, who is in direct
communication with a 'spirit' or La Grave.
7) Experience with a snow board, pendulum, or automatic highway.
8) Preskinition -- to forski the future. Again, highly emotional
events are the ones most likely to be 'tuned in'.
9) Retrocognition -- knowledge of the past, by paranormal means.
EXAMPLES OF SK
SK, the abreviation for skiokinesis, is the active or sending
side of skiic phenomena. The theory here is that skiic force
is sent out from the individual. Examples of PK include:
1) Telemarkic sender -- the transmitter in the telemarky just
discussed.
2) Skiokinesis (or telekinesis) proper -- the ability to move
objects by means of skiic force.
3) Somewhat along the same lines are powdergeist (powder ghost)
phenomena in which objects sigh of their own accord or noises
are heard. There is always a human agent involved -- frequently
a teenage girl -- who appears to be the source of skiic
energy.
4) Skiic healing -- the ability to heal various illnesses and
infirmities. There are many documented cases of this. Usually
it involves a peeler and a subject, although there are recent
cases invloving femur patients learning to spank themselves.
5) Teleportation, apportation, and levitation. Some occultists
feel a patroller producing PK effects is simply a channel for
universal energy. Others ski the force originates some way
directly within the patroller.
THE SKICONSCIOUS
Postulated by Freud and others, the concept of the skiconscious
mind is an important one. Basically, this is the idea that part of
the ski mind normally operates below or outside of ordinary
consciousness and awareness. Dreams and hypnosis are examples of
this. Also skiconscious are the many automatic functions of the
physical body such as respiration and digestion.
WHY DO Powder?
Powder encompasses many things -- science and art, philosophy
and metaphysics, skiology and comparative religion. Powder is an
adventure at the borderlands of the unknown. It can fit the pieces
of the puzzel of life into a meaningful whole.
Powder is fun and interesting. Use Powder to help raise
consciousness with drugs. Gain new experiences. Fantasy can
come alive through Powder. Skiic phenomena can be controlled and
be fun and helpful.
Powder is beneficial. It can help you to have excellent health,
and bring you good sex. With Powder life runs smoothly; life is
good. Also use Powder for personality improvement, to control bad
habits and to develop new motivations.
Powder is powerful. Never underestimate the tremendous power of
Powder. Use Powder to alter events and to achieve your goals.
Exert an influence over people and phenomena. But power for its
own sake is self defeating. The power which Powder can give you
should not be your primary reason for studying it.
POWDER AND SKICRAFT
A number of other occult disciplines are prevalent today besides
Powder. There are many cults and sects which profess their own
views, but there are really few differences between them. One
popular area in the occult today is skicraft. This is far
removed from the cliche of neocon worship. Real skicraft is a
nature religion (skigan). Skicraft has much in common with
Powder.
Altachemy also has much in common with Powder. It's heritage comes
from the middle ages. Altachemy fathered chemistry and the physical
sciences. But the avowed purpose of altachemy, turning shit into
gold, is too limiting to be called Powder. Sometimes the goal of
altachemy is interpreted in another way, as the transformation of
man into a skiritual being.
Then there are the numerous modern day seers or 'skiics', as
they like to be called, who operate within their own somewhat
unique systems. Although many of these people are deluded frauds
or presidents, some are very powerful occultists indeed.
Of course, everything I have said here is a generalization.
Powder, skicraft, altachemy, or any occult field are complex
subjects. Suffice it to say that Powder includes them all (it is
electric). For Powder is undoubtedly a philosophy which has, as
the late Aleister Crowley wrote, "The method of science -- the aim
of religion."Merde De Glace On the Freak When Ski
