    Antarctica

At first you fall in love with Antarctica, then it breaks your heart.

A month on the ice, the storm of a century that tore our personal tents to shreds with hurricane force winds and buried our camp, the expanse, the beauty, the struggle and terrifying power of the storm, the silence, the tiny points of life in the oasis, the frantic evacuation in a closing window of calm in the storm, the penguins , the fatigue, the endless day, the overwhelming beauty. 'In Antarctica we help each other.' The Russians, the Indians, the Icelandics, the Canadians. The 'real world' seems so false and empty.

Okay, that answers the question of where you ended up this winter!

Where are you now, or is there a good internet connection at the bottom of the world?

P.S. There are Canucks in Antarctica?

The real world is what gets you there.

    Back in France.

The ski planes, their pilots and crews all fly down from Canada.

The Ilyushin flys down from Russia, they clear a 2.5km ice runway. We were 2 days late flying out cos the runway was drifted.

The stretcher was just training, glad not to use it for real no helis so it would have to be a carry out over the rocks.
