We’ve been touring everyday since lucking into last day at targhee (first chair!). Having a ball in truly mediocre conditions. Need to step it up and get higher. Click image for larger version.

Tough act to follow previous few, but my 8 y/o has been my main ski partner this season and definitely starting to get the bug.

Need more kid stoke here! Toured again off of guardsman, 2 laps on west wall off of Jupiter (wind was ripping at the peak) then over to blue slip and to parking lot pickup down Erica’s.

My thirteen-year-old and I got out on the citadel yesterday. This was a big deal for him and was his first true ski-mountaineering adventure.

Take it slow. Start out by doing short in-bounds hikes and celebrate each accomplishment no matter how small. It is a pretty amazing thing when your kid starts enjoying the adventure and journey to the top almost as much as the ski down. My kid actually said after we skied this that: "I'm actually happy that the ski areas are closed because its encouraging us to get out on some adventures".

^^^^^ this. We started doing really small skins behind the house. Led to some big adventures this year.

The mountain where my kid did his seasonal program this winter had a group for older (pre-teen and up I think) kids that includes skinning and my kid (still way too young) thought it looked so cool, so hopefully he still has that attitude when he's old enough for us to start trying it out together.

These programs are great. Its so cool to see race programs branch out to bring these programs to kids that love to ski but don't want to run gates all day. I coach the Junior All-Mountain team at Loveland (my kid is on the general All-mountain team). I had kids as young as 8 hiking to the top of 13,010 (Loveland's high point) and Wild Child this season, and they loved every minute of it. Its pretty amazing what a young kid is actually capable of when you put them in a group with other motivating like-minded kids that eat, breath and dream about skiing.
