It makes me happy that Uncle Christian follows this thread.
I didn't believe in reincarnation when I was your age either.

My almost 8 is ripping it up this spring. He is loving the steeps and sometimes narrow. Still, he reverts to a stem christy turn a lot, so also been getting him out into a lot of blues to work on rolling those edges into a turn. But man is he having fun.
Highlight of the week was riding chair 10 at KW. He likes to stop at the highest lift tower as he was told if your chair stops there, it is a portal to some alternate universe. After waiting to see if the chair would stop and disappear, he turned to me and said, “Dad, follow me.” Being only his fifth time up the Wall, I wanted to know his plan. He then said, “just follow me. I think I see a way into the drain.” We then skied a super fun line that ends in a steep and fairly narrow couloir. So rad. Fun ski partner.

Eagle Bowl. His tracks are down there. I took the pic, as he made some nice tracks and from the lift, they looked as good as anyone’s.
Hard to believe the lifts close in a week. There is still some snow left. This is a flat lot below the base.

Ongoing Kid Stoke [2011 and on...]
Well damn, had Mt biking moab, la sal yurt, day of cat skiing w purgatory all planned out and then this happened off of the high bar at gymnastics. At 3:45 on the Friday starting spring break.
The 8 year old is out for a while but good news is no fracture. Feel terrible for the kid.

Ouch. We had scare today. Hot deep powder and we took Todd out. He did pretty good until he stuffed a tip near the bottom. I got to him and his ski was turned 180 degrees from the direction it should have been and still attached to my four-year-old’s leg. Really scary. I immediately released his ski and took off his boot. Fortunately as I palpated his ankle and knee he stopped crying. I asked him if he needed a toboggan ride down and he said no. Got his boot and skis back on, got my skis on and I carried him down a bit before he skied out. Scary though.

I wonder about that. My kid likes his boot pretty tight and fitted. And with the buckles cranked down. I imagine he still has some movement, as it is not a custom race fit or anything, but not a huge amount. He only landed once this year with a ski turned around, and more like 140 degrees, not 180. But still far enough to fuck up my knee. Got him straightened out and after a moment, he skied off. I think their joints tend to me much looser than ours and ready for a beating. He has had a ski turned around 180^ at least two times in his career. Both times he only wanted to rest a few minutes and keep skiing for the day. He will be 8 in a month. I think he will soon be in the zone where it makes more of a difference.
I actually just dialed his DIN back .5 because of that wipe out last week. Would much rather see his ski release than stay on. And, BTW, his wipe out was in hot pow this past week.
He also rode his first lift solo this past week. Due to hot pow, or rather his pop catching the tip of his ski in the deep hot pow as he loaded the chair, right after claiming that that particular chair was the easiest fixed grip on the hill to load, and then promptly rolled out of the front of the chair. He was a little freaked out, ten feet off the ground and could not reach for the comfort bar. I tried to knock it with my pole. couldn't, told him he'd be fine, and then a lift showed up with a long enough bar to tip it down. Kid was stoked. By the time I caught up with him at the top, concerned he'd be freaked out, I could barely catchup to him as he dropped in.

^^^^ It takes a lot of reminding. Even adults I've taken pics up seem to think they are supposed to stop and smile at the camera. No. Just keep skiing.
What hill is that FullStack? Like the looks of the top station.

Me and my 12 year old hiked up willy's wide staircase and we dropped through snorkel door to snorkel nose at A-Basin yesterday. Afterwards, we poked around a bit in the steep gully #5.

Awesome Willy's stoke!
I have so many pictures and videos from this winter and haven't really had time to go through them but here are a few while I am here. This is probably my favorite video. A Tuesday night and she (8) felt like lapping the chair till they closed after race practice. Trying to hold a phone and film her is getting too sketchy! Will need a new system next year. As with all pov videos much steeper than it looks.
We need to work on weighting that downhill ski in transition. She was doing better at the end of the year but that was her biggest hangup this year. I started bribing her with a $5 bill if she hit a couple gates during runs and that really helped her focus and straighten up her line...if still almost always late. Tyrol.
She finished third overall in u10 this year. She was really only a couple points out of first place because she had one bad weekend with slow times and a DNF. No first place's but lots of podiums this year. About 35 ish girls in her division. Tyrol.
Just picked these up on an end of season sale. 139 K2 Pinnacle Jr a bit over her head for now. Pretty stoked on the construction (wood core), the flex (pretty burly, bindings mounted back from center, and the rocker/camber/rocker with lots of ski to float out front and 84 under foot hopefully the give her some grip when she charges the groomers.
She made it to Granite Peak, Tyrol, Sundown, Chestnut, Cascade, Jackson Hole, Grand Targhee, Big Sky, Snowmass, and finished her season a couple weeks ago with a day at Beaver Creek.

Yea, figured out that was Tyrol, she looks great in the night video.
Our U10 Granddaughter racing for Ausblick had a "PERFECT SEASON" in the Wisconsin Junior Racing League. Attached is a video of a Metro Cup dual slalom at Tyrol in early March. Our Granddaughter is on the red course racing against a U12 boy on blue. Not technically a dual as the two courses were timed separately with the top eight U12 and under boys or girls going to a race off. She made it to the finals were she was going to get beat by the top boy, he falls so she wins it. I asked her when he fell did you let up a little as long as you were going to win, she looks at me and says "why would I do that?" Silly me...
