Should be green again by tomorrow and muddy as hell again by late in the day Saturday. These afternoon T-showers are getting kind of old.

In other news, the second lift being added on Flat Iron did have concrete poured today. Looks like the top station will get the 'crete finished on on another day. A view of another tower footing.Name: Concrete.jpg

2012 SW Montana Conditions, Stoke and Whatev Thread

Went up to beehive basin yesterday for a nice trail jog / hike.

Astounded by the monstrous ugly homes built up there nowadays. Sad.

Also, looks like there’s a possible expansion of the parking lot? There were vehicles lined up for a hundred yards on each side of the road there.

New parking lot construction begins on August 5th. Parking will be a bit tighter during construction but will double the available off street parking.

    OFFICIAL ANNOUNCEMENT

    Talisman absolutely SUCKS at horseshoes.

Played a round on Benny Profane's favorite horseshoe pits (Riverhouse) and the results were:
    1) Harry = winner winner chicken dinner
    2) Talisman's brother
    3) Mrs Talisman
    4) Talisman himself = dead last

I got a free chicken dinner tonight, so I am a happy boy. I could not decide if Talisman thought he was bowling or playing frisbee, but he clearly was not playing horseshoes.

^^Big fire burning north of Helena so the Mo might be a bit smokey through the canyon. Floated yesterday above Canyon Ferry from York's Island to Townsend and it was really nice but didn't catch shit. That has to be the worst stretch of fishing water on the whole river. Lots of bird life though including some sandhill cranes.

I would try to hook up with you guys but I'm leaving tomorrow for Colorado.

    FYI

Montana Department of Transportation will be installing guardrails along U.S. Highway 191 between Bozeman and Big Sky. Crews will begin the project in mid-August and are expected to continue through November.

They will be closing down one lane in order to replace 29,000 feet of guardrail with a new, stronger and taller railing. With this construction through Gallatin Canyon travelers and tourists can expect delays up to 15 minutes between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m.

That is going to make an already shit drive even more hellish.

This morning I was about 3 minutes late to a small SUV attempting to drive under a Pup trailer just north of Gateway. Didn't look like anyone was hurt real bad but the SUV will never be the same and it slightly bent a fender on the Pup.

People really need to slow the fuck down, for every vehicle you pass there are 20 more behind another haul truck or side dump that is fully loaded and going as fast as possible.

I don't really understand the need to pass vehicles in the canyon going at or near the speed limit. During daylight hours there is always a conga line of vehicles formed behind a 45 foot RV towing a car or boat or an 18 wheeler. Plan on doodle bug drivers and leave a few minutes earlier and relax into the view. Perhaps if I was better at horseshoes the answer would be clear?

its the azholes tailgaiting a vehicle going 5mph over limit already, that create as much problems as the 5th wheel going 15mph under
whole state is f'd in my opinion less the rural parts...changed a whole lot since my time in the 90's, but still much better than where ive been lately...so there's that...

Easy way to control traffic, install horseshoe pits at least a quarter of a mile away from the road. Talisman will be throwing shoes in every direction ensuring lots of broken windshields and assorted mayhem.

If you are referring to the Tiger grant, the project is out to bid at the moment. Can't say when shovels might actually hit dirt, but looking like spring 2020.
