If it was the Y/C it would have been a Benjamin.
I have been in this State for 30 years and I am willing to admit that I am part of the problem.

Not sure about the conditions at the YC, but ~3/8 inch of snow fell last night, calm winds and 24*F at 6800 feet at 6:30 AM.

Well, looks like they opened some stuff up on the peak, of course they waited for me to leave first lol. In any case, glad to see things returning to "normal" and I'll be back next week.

I didn't have time to stand in the hour+ tram line, but did see many skiers were in Marx and Lenin around noon. While at the Big Sky Town Hall this afternoon to get a building permit for a new shack, I did see Harry holding court in the Mayor's Chambers, but he was too busy to notice me. Fingers crossed that the clouds rolling in bring some fresh snow for Wanker Wednesday tomorrow.

Being the good, crowd-conscious American that I am, I observed a warm, sunny, and delayed MLK day today at Bridger. While stuffing crap in my bag before a ridge hike, a patroller offered to carry my skis up. Either I was a real sore sight or it was my lucky day. Maybe both? Regardless, taking the long way to Z Chute was downright enjoyable and the skiing was alright, too, if not scratchy up top.

Marx and the Dictators were so good this morning. Really good skiing on the south face all day today until a bit of refreeze below tree line later in the afternoon. Needed a day like today. Sun and pow. Good for the soul for sure.

^^ excellent article.
I have long suspected this. But it is nice to see that someone else sees what I see.

2012 SW Montana Conditions, Stoke and Whatev Thread
Wanker Wednesday started off with a solo run on a boot deep groomer (Silverknife) then back up for the 9:30 meetup. Met Talisman, waited a bit for a no-show Swimmy and we headed down Blue Room which was totally untracked and boot deep in some spots and knee deep in other spots. So awesome. As we approached the lift we saw/heard Swimmy yelling at us from the lift. Got on the lift, and near the top saw/heard Swimmy on the cat track yelling and waving his arms at us. Last known sighting of Swimmy.
Headed back to Colter’s Hell via upper Ambush Glades for more untracked sweetness. Then Talisman & I went back up and dropped into Shady Chute. Unreal how nice the snow was.
Went up Swifty & the Double Triple to check the Tram line. Line was not tooooo bad, probably 30 minutes, but we both commented that in those 30 minutes we could get in 3 Challenger laps so off we went, via Gun Mount. Holy shit, boot deep all the way. Then Forbidden Forest were I got stuck in a tree.
Challenger laps included Country Club, Highway, and Moonlight/Midnight.
My legs were ON FIRE by this point, so I parted ways with Talisman who was talking about some Headwaters laps.
What a day !

Not to get too mired in the GRTF but what are the options?
Big Sky is going to continue to expand until the market crashes. And then it will still continue to expand.
So you can bitch and moan or you can look into the ways the entities can help to process wastewater. Yeah maybe that algae bloom was from the lack of complete treatment at the Big Sky waste water treatment plant or maybe it is from all those places being built along the river that still use septic leach fields. In the end the river still suffers.
I did not know this until today but the GRTF made the new fishing access at Moose Creek a reality.
I did know that CH just spent a shitload of $$$ on a state of the art treatment facility across the street from the bottom of 6-Shooter. The level of treatment renders the effluent clean enough to drink, not that anyone will do that.
In short, everyone who lives around the headwaters of the Gallatin and everyone who skis there is a part of the problem. Yeah there are other players like the Missouri Riverkeepers etc. but for fuck sake jumping on Kristen for doing her job (raising $$$ to help clean up your mess) is kind of bullshit and that article was inflammatory and unfair.I have been in this State for 30 years and I am willing to admit that I am part of the problem.

This reminds me of our lively chairlift conversation about development planning and water in this part of Gallatin/Madison County. Right now the growth may get contained by the limited supply of drinking water on the mountain, but longer term Big Sky needs a real government to manage how taxes are spent and be accountable for results. With no elected government it will be hard to develop area plans to counter balance growth with wildlife corridors, transportation routes, community bike paths and recreation infrastructure beyond skiing.

I don't know if I know Timmy B, but I got along pretty well with Mike in our interactions.
Skiing was great up in BS today, legs are toast. Still going to hit BB tomorrow if it gets fresh.

First, we were late getting to the mtn. Lame.
When I saw you, we were on our first chair and had a bit of powder fever. We immediately jumped right in and figured we'd catch up at some point. Kind of ended up all over the place after that and our paths never crossed again.
Fingers crossed more is coming tonight.

Considering coming down for a couple of hours. Bought some new boots and want to see how they wear.
Talisman, what time are you getting rolling?
