MiCol: December is nice and uncrowded till Christmas/New Years. January might be the best month in terms of less crowded with good conditions. Once February hits the crowds come pretty steady until April when things calm down again. It is sometimes difficult to predict why a Wednesday in March has a 40 minute tram line and the next day is walk on.

Ski the one or two days following pow days is a good strategy. Low visibility on the peak is always great because it keeps the tram line down and you really don't need to see to ski the gut of Marx/Lenin/First Gully etc. The fall lines are consistent and there are no real obstacles. Also search around for the wind buff that we are blessed with often on non-pow days. Try different aspects till you find it. There is always something good to ski on that huge mountain, you just gotta find it (and asking patrollers what's good can eliminate a lot of leg work too).

    Geez now I'm getting psyched!

In case you couldn't read between the lines(or rocks) just ski where the wind takes ya. And bring ptex. And since I'm leaving have fun at the bowl people.

Micol, I went Silver and plan to ski The Really Big every weekend this winter, except blackouts. Weekends really aren't that crowded. Christmas and President's Day are crowded (in my limited experience) so I won't mind missing those at all.

Crowded is a relative term. This place is huge. Base Area jammed up ? Just head over to the Dakota Lift and lap the Bavarian Forest or Hanging Valley all day. That's what I do. No lift line ever at Dakota. On a day that resort management describes as record setting, there will be less than 10 people skiing Dakota. Get hungry go to Shedhorn Yurt.

You are correct, they measure out at 440. Nice, I lived in there from 1996 to 2008. Great location. Hopefully you bought a 2nd or even better 3rd floor unit.

I was down at the Really Big yesterday for the Patrol Snow and Avalanche day. (thats a perk Flowy???).

Sounds like there will be quite a bit opening on Thursday. Giddyup!

I predict that your heating bill will never exceed about 35 bucks a month.

Don't know if they still have the same cable TV setup but it used to be pretty easy to access.

Don't know what you Biz setup is but I have an ex-patroller buddy in Bozeman who is a talented seamstress, he is all set up and runs a line called Outaware.

I also avoided the rush and picked up my pass. Gold FTW!

    Congrats on retiring bunion!

I skied one day with Andrew from Outaware and he fixed a pack for me. Solid dude. I really like his stuff, especially the bibs. Definitely gonna buy a pair when I can afford it.

All this talk about the Hill has me nostalgic for the old Black Bear. Nothing like crawling back from the Bear and flopping into bed at the Hill.

You cats have a good time at opener, I can't come down till middle of next week. Looks like it should be fun skiing. Be awesome if they got the tram and Challenger open.
