Big Sky costs me less than $50 a day, I've hardly waited in a line all season, and the slopes are anything but crowded once you get off Mr. K.

    But...enjoy Showdown.

Ski patrol came up to me with a smug “seriously” comment when he saw my kid and I coming down untracked line after traversing a way, entered via open gait. Told him there were no closure signs and kinda put him in his place. If you don’t want people traversing to in bounds terrain that is “closed” then put up a rope or a sign. In the end he admitted we were not doing anything wrong. I’m not ducking ropes with my ten year old.

Well damn, I guess if we all knew how cheap it was, we all would have got season passes to Big Sky.

I would title the piece: Montana Snowbowl, the most gloriest south facing refreeze this side of Mad River Glen. Goes well with the toxic inversion, fentanyl addicts under the bridge, and a traffic jam on Reserve street.

Lucky for me, my 20,000 acre ranch in Chateau abuts the Bob Marshall and I bought the ranger off so me and my bros can rage thru the Wilderness area crushing huge lines on the Front. Kind of like what the Yellowstone Club will be doing in the Crazies when their heli's are launching from the Marlboro ranch in pursuit of that "private powder". If the snow sucks we just spend the day running over coyotes and shooting wolves.

Last two years look rough. 19-20 was 52". 20 -21 was 45". Could that be right? Ouch!!

Average of 121" - but that woulda been better before the last 2.

I guess if it's skiable in those years, it could be pretty sick when the snow comes back. I'm surprised you survived the tomahawk with those snow levels!!
Where are you getting these numbers from? I’d like to see the same for great divide but doing math with The Nevada ridge snotel is hard and they get less snow. Montanans love talking about their donuts.

I'm assuming he saw them here:

I don't think their numbers are accurate, but it at least gives a general idea of good year vs. bad year.

2019-2020 does not look accurate when considering the summit base depth. Seems unlikely they could have a 41 inch base with only 52 inches of snow. Although this year their website says they have a 42 inch base and have received only 61 inches of snow, so maybe. Slim pickings regardless.

Oh man, next time you are passing through Bigfork check out the bakery at the local grocery store. Used to be an IGA but changed awhile back to Harvest Foods. The ladies there have been making them the same way for decades now. An exterior that is equal parts crispy and chewy, a light-airy center, and juuuuust enough frosting to not overpower on sweetness. Old fashioned are good, but their best is the maple bars. Bummed that the folks moved out of the valley, since I always make a stop there whenever I pass through.

Looks like 2 or 3 vehicles in three days have managed to get onto (and get stuck on) the actual Low Dog Road ski run?!

I counted two stuck vehicles in two days on the poop chute/ low dog/ lone moose access. Too much day drinking or not quite enough?

Thanks! Surprised I haven't run into you yet.

And not sure if you'll be back up in the next few weeks but any chance you'd be interested in taking me down N Summit? I'm embarrassed to say I've never skied it.

Xpost. Stupid deal on my bike. This makes for a hell of a Big Sky park bike. Make offers. I have a local dude who is probably gonna buy it this afternoon for cheap. Really want a maggot to buy it though.

Gotta love Discovery's description of the "backside"...........

And the backside? Well, imagine the Chugach without the costly helicopter ride.

Yeah, not even close. Who the heck writes this shit? And who believes it?
