I think this guy is on to something. Our business has been taken for granted by the ski areas for too long. From now on I refuse to ski anywhere that doesn't guarantee at least 12 inches of fresh powder snow, sunshine, and no wind.

Yes, a double chair was a huge improvement on a rope tow or T-bar, but often colder because of the wind exposure.

Maybe it's a wild extrapolation, but you seem like a guy with very soft hands.

I always enjoy the first couple days where it's cold enough that snow stops being slippery... it gets old when pipes start to freeze, though.

2012 Montana Conditions, Stoke and Whatev Thread

In other news, the southern Gallatin is experiencing quite awesome conditions. Better than Big Sky area by a good margin.

Yeah looks like the snow just doesn't want to creep an extra 3 miles north to BS. The usual I suppose. So weird having there be like 5 people waiting for the tram midday during Xmas week. Some decent turns in Liberty but the wind has wrecked pretty much everything else. Shredhorn was actually spinning though to avoid the slog out middle road. Challenger was much better skiing.

Sounds kinda grim. I planned to go next week but may put it off until they get more terrain open. Meanwhile my wife and I were psyched to ski in the Torchlight Parade at GD tomorrow night, but now it looks like they may cancel it due to forecasted frigid temps. Oh well the weekend looks better.

I spent the whole day on the Northside and thought it was skiing OK. Headwaters is open as far as Hellroaring, which was by far the best run of the day. Good snow, if a little grabby, and I didn't hit any rocks. 6 shooter mostly didn't have a line all day. Lone tree was bumps, but I found a few turns of soft windblown on the ridge between obsidian and DTM. It's not epic conditions, but I wouldn't call it grim. SKIING IS FUN!

Been a rough start to the season at disco. However I did manage to hit a rope drop on motherlode(backside) today. Saw troller pulling it and asked if he was opening it. He says "it's open brother, have fun. You're 1st tracks for the year(other than patrol)" Man I needed that.

Was just staring up at that today and telling my oldest maybe next year.

Lone tree seemed to hold the best snow on the mountain. Brought my rock board on this trip, but in hindsight didn't need to. I guess the silver lining of being blessed with 1 inch of fresh each day is that the dacite is easily visible and avoidable.

Despite a slow start, whitefish has been pretty great this year. And somehow, even though they sold a record number of season passes, crowds haven't been bad at all. Even Christmas week hasn't been bad, although I'm sure the cold helped with that.

    Yeah, that looks great.

Hard getting motivated this morning. Gonna take a day off, sit by the fire, and overdose on football.

    You guys go get it.
