Belmont chair opening this morning was fantastic, five inches of fresh on top of eight a couple days ago. Waited 15 minutes to get the first chair of the season, the only person dumb enough to stand out there in -8 F. You know it's going to be a good day when you ride back up and your tracks are still sitting there alone. Fuckin' #gdeep maaan! Left at noon, thoroughly chilled.

2012 Montana Conditions, Stoke and Whatev Thread
Anyone know how my family can get some slightly discounted big sky passes? Planning on heading there tomorrow. $220 is steep.
GD was unreal.

Yes you need to find someone with a gold pass and they can get a discounted "buddy pass" for a discount. I would hook you up, but didn't get a gold pass this season because of the big price increase. Conditions at Big Sky are better with the ~4 inches of fresh today, but $220 for boney conditions that are likely to be crowded doesn't seem worth it with snowier and cheaper options out there.

I mean I would just go ski bridger and they can see the crazies. Then ball out for a nice dinner with all the money you saved by not going to the Big Lie.

I understand the angst against the day ticket price and would feel the same way if I didn't live nearby where a season pass could be used to your advantage, but never say never. Despite all the Boyne/mega corp stuff, (that happens at just about every real (or trying to be real resort) Lone Peak is one of the best mountains in North America. I'd go at least once. In the spring. With the best base. On a weekday and ski bell to bell.

To load the Belmont chair we had to sign a waiver releasing the owners from liability should we damage our equipment or get killed. We were all pleasantly surprised when at the top we found a decent base and lots of powder. I guess these new owners are a lot more conservative when it comes to opening up the mountain. The past owner would have opened up the top a month ago and called it "adventure skiing".
