Here's a weekend TR from Nevada. Work called and asked if I was ready to come off of vacation. Well, I guess so. Conditions are probably all-time here in the Great Basin.

Fringe, that could have been cool... did you go up high?

In other news, the dust on cruster bunny has been delivering in the Bridgers.

I found anywhere from 4 inches on lower sections to 15 inches of pow on the upper ridge, and had some great turns the last few days, especially today in the bowl!

I’d say about 200 + people were out skiing at BBowl today. It was actually quite interesting to see the mountain totally tracked up by the end of the day.

Snowpack has set up fairly cohesive due to the cold temps, but the topmost section of the ridge is holding pockets of wind slab, and I did see one break and run almost all the way to the cat road.

Both days this weekend the winds, temps, and a touch of rain kept a lot of the snow surfaces frozen, which was a bummer. I got up around 10600’ each day. Really cool terrain and a surprising amount of tracks. Something tells me it’s not the local miners.

Bridger is looking to be in good shape.

Here's a funny question, when u spread cream cheese on a bagel, do u go around the hole in a circular fashion, or do you just spread across the hole like a piece of bread?

That's the book Tony's mom made out of his photos and tgr posts.

Was a good afternoon for remembering tone Capone. 6 er so of low density with under chunder in spots. Skied caravan into close call to the gangsters (tonys) air and plaque. Low angle skied awesome on the way out!

Ordered Rosa's on the way home and opened the door to this free small cheese pizza for Tony! Apparently they are including a picture of tone and a small cheese w every order.

Tony was the shit and we have a hell of a solid community here in sw montana!
    Two turns of tone capone!

TGR, SW Montana, and everybody else lost Tone Capone about 3 days before I flew to BZN for the first time to interview for the job I've got now. I wish I'd been able to meet the guy.

Fitting way to celebrate another one gone too soon.

    Thanks

2012 SW Montana Conditions, Stoke and Whatev Thread

I poked around in Beehive today, and was quite surprised to see whatever fresh they had on Easter was completely zapped today.

It was the hardest of the hard pack, with 2-4 inches of very fluffy snow on top by day’s end.

Tomorrow’s storm looks like it’s coming in heavy and wet. That snow is gonna slide like greased shit.

Can confirm snow at Bridger was sliding like greased shit this morning. For the next few hours at least I would personally avoid skinning under anything steep that skiers might be coming down or could slide naturally

A flashback to April 2013, an impeccable 5 night trip with my wife into the S. Gallys in YNP. We based near the headwaters of the Gallatin and toured out of our expedition basecamp in every direction. The snowpack was completely locked-up upon arrival and we received from 1"-6" everyday/night of fresh with periods of 28F sun.

It has been windy everyday here in N. Nevada. We had to shut our crane down at noon today. Hoping the winds can calm and the sun can start forming up some kinda corn harvest for my day off on Sunday.

2012 SW Montana Conditions, Stoke and Whatev Thread

Wow, what can I say? Anywhere from 6 inches to 3 feet of crazy snow up at Bridger.

The North wind had absolutely ripped exposed slopes and made fat, hard wind drifts on ridge lines.

I had nice turns in the protected areas of North Bowl. I also saw the John had avalanched earlier in the day.

Turns in the wind affected snow were ... not that great. I’m gonna investigate some south facing stuff tomorrow.

    Stay safe out there...
