Maybe they figured out that a black surface wasn't conducive to an accurate reading.

    Nope:

Didn't go up top but the lower mountain skied well.

Ridiculous morning. Got in three laps. Only 4 of us in first tram. In today’s ski-world, not sure where else you can go and get that.

I’ll be ridin’ this stoke for a bit.

Holy fuck I missed that? I was on the 2nd lift today but only had time for two laps before having to help with kiddos. Challenger was fantastic tho but that looked on a completely other level.

Yeah, it was definitely one of those South Face phenom days. Even though the gauge was broken, Bavaria was showing 9” overnight and with N NW winds all night I knew it could be stacked up.

My buddy Tim and I got in line. We were the only two at first. A patroller came by with a big smile and whispered to us that there was 18” up top.

    We got giddy.

FKNA is right! I scheduled a meeting for this AM like 3 weeks ago. Thinking, "what are the odds it's a pow day?".....the house won.

Damn. Great pics swimmy! Glad someone got something out of that storm. It grazed whitefish with a couple inches (and dropped a couple feet just north of us). We need a solid hit to bury the shrubbery.

Long shot but does anyone have any discounted buddy passes or ikon pass discounts for big sky? I thought I bought a 3 day pass this year but guess I only bought the early and late season one and have a room for the night the weekend before Christmas.

~200 is wild but who am I kidding I was probably going to spend 80+ on the tram anyways.

Dang dude, Normally I use few (if any) of my buddy passes. But this year I have a good buddy who’s bringing his family to Big Sky over Xmas break and I’m giving them all 8.

I know this doesn’t help ya but if I had any to offer, would be more than willing. Let’s see if anyone else replies…WRG? You gonna be around then?

Regardless, let’s meet up for a lap or three.

Oh and I finally caved and jumped into the mirrorless world. My go-to bodies have been a Nikon D850 and D500. I’ve grown comfortable with the functionality of Nikon so I landed on a Z8, which is the closest version to the 850.

With my D850, if I added the battery pack I could get 9 frames per second at 45 MP. However, after 25 shots or so, the buffer would kick in. Not the end of the world but it was a little clunky.

Now with the Z8, I get 20 fps at 45 MP and buffer is really not a factor. The autofocus is more precise as well which is awesome as there is nothing more annoying than a sweet shot of BobbyBill that is out of focus : )

Overall, it is just a better tool for ski photography. So even though I’m about 2 years too late to the party, I’m excited to play around with it.

Your post reminds me of being excited to shoot 7fps with the battery boost with a Canon EOS-3 circa 1998 with Fuji Velvia slides, paying $5 a roll, $5 to get developed, then throwing most of the slides in the trash after viewing them and learning FPS is a blessing and a financial curse.

In the digital era it’s only a curse of time.

Ha! Yeah, it’s hard to keep up.

My first “real” camera was a Canon Rebel kit camera that my mom bought me for Xmas ’98. I was 19 or so and really starting to get into photography. But I wasted so much film cause I had no clue what I was doing.

It didn’t shoot continuous frames though so I guess that was a blessing.

Oh and I had to be in Helena yesterday for work. I was hoping to see the red machine as I was driving through Townsend. No luck though.

I think you're gonna really dig the in-body stabilized sensor and the e-shutter!

Little cloud dropped an inch or two at Big Sky after skiing today. Could spruce things for the a.m. Marx tomorrow?? That's the rumor but apparently they ran out of bamboo while prepping today.

Well, the rope dropped...the rocks were hit...and the bottom 2/3 skied pretty well. Cause for celebration in any case. Sheddy opened too although I did not venture down there.

    Nice dude!

Glad someone is getting after it. Been kind of busy with work stuff but hoping things start to taper off a bit as we approach the holidays.

Going to try and hit the opener at Bridger tomorrow and play around with the new camera.

We were a couple tram cars back from Yeahman it definitely skied better on skiers right I thought. Yes rocks were definitely hit but worth the trip.

^^Yeah that's nice, NFMR lol. It was very tempting to drop off the Duckwalk into Bacon Rind for a few pristine powder turns, but I resisted, fearing the thin snowpack in the trees below. We're just getting going, no need to push it.

I need a pair of early season skis to use for a few weeks. Preferably with bindings. ~180-185cm ~105-110mm

Would prefer to avoid gear swap and just meet up in town. Any Big Sky mags have something you want to sell?
