Having an axe murderer on the loose is crazy. My mother in law also had some fucked up dude try to break into her house early last Sunday am over in Norton Ranch. Cops were there in 5 minutes and they hauled him away in an ambulance.

I'm not one to be paranoid but we definitely lock our doors every night and I've decided to purchase a shotgun.

Maybe just an 870? Will feel weird to have a gun in the house but better safe than sorry right? Figure we can also use when rv camping in bear country.

I’d argue bear spray is better home defense. Hard to miss, won’t go to jail for murder if you make a mistake or find a judge/city attorney going after you. Easier to “pull the trigger”, less morally complicated in the heat of the moment. Granted you might inhale some yourself and destroy your carpet, but human brains/blood all over the wall and ceiling can be disturbing to some.

I’m all for shooting criminals square in the face, just don’t think a gun is the best choice.

Years ago when my kid was two we were camping in east desert California and drunk guy came into our camp wanting to “party”. I picked up my kid, went in camper, got my Glock 10mm. I didn’t present it, but was really wanting to put a bullet in this assholes head who wouldn’t leave. If I had bear spray I could have used that and tied his stupid ass to a tree and left.

Seriously though, bear spray in the bedside drawer is effective in the very unlikely event of an intruder. If you do decide to go the loaded firearm unlocked in the home route let me know if you want to borrow a pump or side by side shotgun trial in your house.

There was a serial killer caught in bozeman in the 90's, I don't remember who. I worked with a girl with a lazy eye at the Pickle Barrel, the story was he was passing through town and he broke into her place and tried to kill her and IIRC she hit him on the head with a cast iron pan and he was arrested. She got the lazy eye from fighting him. My memory is real, real fuzzy on the story though and I'm sure it's archived in the Bozeman Chronicle.

Only drawback of bear spray is you will inherently likely inhale some yourself as it aerosolizes in the room, but probably far less debilitating than taking it to the face.

I see a gun as challenging to commit to pulling the trigger, then you get over taken by said loser as you fumble around. Then maybe you kill your wife or kid in the adjacent room.

I have guns in my house, but none are ready for a home intruder. My wife carries a side arm when she's in the woods alone, on her hip, in plain view, more to say "I have a fucking gun, leave me alone" than anything else.

Trackhead I'm in exact agreement with you. Guns locked in the gun case, bear spray in the nightstand. And a baseball bat under the bed.

I mean the guns are accessible if I get into a prolonged battle, but what are the odds of that? I have rubber slugs as well that I bought to scare away a bear. But it just seems too farfetched to even contemplate.

My friend has a handgun in his nightstand. But he never locks his doors at night. That really strikes me as odd.
