Low visibility in bear country is an obvious red flag.
Let's spread out and be quiet. I need my solitudes.

I'll Say!
Gonna be fun to watch this matriculate.
So many questions. Maybe a dedicated thread?
I'd like to see the drive line?
Interested to see how you tunnel air to the radiator too.
TH, What's your end game aesthetic... Mad Max or more traditional? Headlight gives off a bird of prey vibeI am not in your hurry

Yeah Track, that’s pretty bad a$$. Maybe I’ll get an invite when it’s complete…

You will…gotta get first dry run, maybe next week. Building the other track now. It’s taken weeks of cutting/drill/bending/welding to make these tracks. It’s so tedious.
Fully expect to have some design challenges so we’ll see.

When you get a chance can you post a photo of the sprockets that drive the tracks?
When I was a young dumb ski bum I helped rebuild cat tracks one fall in exchange for a season pass I was able to then sell and while collecting unemployment against that same ski area.
Anyway, there was zero training and nobody ever told us about torque wrenches or any of those details so we would just tighten the bolts as tight as the air guns would allow. There was a lot of track failure that winter.
What a freaking nice day it is. Back out to the yard.I have been in this State for 30 years and I am willing to admit that I am part of the problem.

Sprockets are not done yet. They are Russian style, like all the Siberian DIY guys are doing. It's a wheel with bolted on UHMWPE cleats. Still working on that, right now it's mock up with wood to get size/spacing/etc correct.
This is a much lower HP/torque machine than some burly resort cat pushing hydrostatic drive motors. I think (hope) the tracks will be fine.
Everything is based on proven Russian builds. Those guys are building these things all over Russia outta scrap in the garage with great success.

Probably more $$$ than you want to put into it. In regards to track durability, don't see why not, that looks like the real deal.I have been in this State for 30 years and I am willing to admit that I am part of the problem.

Thx, I'm all set on track belts, did a ton of research and have rebuilt/owned other snowcats when I lived in Utah. In regards to sprockets, I think I'm good. Like I said, these Russian Youtubers have this stuff dialed in, budget builds, they do amazing things.

Lots of media comes and goes, but YouTube still rules for DIY educational videos, and I suspect it will for a long time to come. Especially for anything intricate. Looks cool TH, good luck with the project.

For whatever reasons (many) it is the best season.
Anticipation of winter sports and that dusting of the 1st white on distant mountains
Its not smokey and hot as balls
The light has that beautiful angle that the artist types like Swimmy & Norseman love to play with & share
And I love getting up to a light frost that gives way to t-shirt & shorts weather.I have been in this State for 30 years and I am willing to admit that I am part of the problem.

One track on, couldn’t resist a test. Obviously there’s a crap ton of work to do with a list too long to even discuss. Reverse worked fine, too.
