We went north of town a ways but the best photos I've seen were taken from Mac Pass. Might go up there tonight if it's clear.

We drove back through Kelly canyon on the way home and that looked like a pretty good spot.

Hell of a light show. Can't way to pull some more RAW shots from my real camera and see if I actually nailed the focus.
Here's one I just pulled straight off the camera wifi to my phone last night.
Think I should have a good shot of the Big Dipper shining through the lights.
Could even see them in my back yard in Whitefish (looking SOUTH) although obviously more light polluted.

Sick. I was out Springhill last night. Normally can hear a pin drop its so quiet. Last night was like 19th Ave.
Drive way out to CA. Could be epic out there. So this is more than one night? Huh...

Thought about that. Probably good out there. That link I posted above shows west of the Madison as pretty much the darkest place within an hour of here.
Edit: Actually out towards CA probably equally as good according to this site. Did you see many people continuing past Cottonwood TH?

I was past cottonwood w a view of the trailhead. Oh yeah. Endless stream of cars till about 130 am. I think if you just keep going they filter out pretty quick.

Super misty Rd way out by the sprawling metropolis of maudlow. Road may be open. Could be rough. It's cool out there.

Great shots everyone. I was laying on top of my truck at the campground in Craig and loved the reds and purple. Only seen green waves in MT.

A slice of spring in Montana
I have been in this State for 30 years and I am willing to admit that I am part of the problem.

Where to get bulk MT Native Wildflower/Pollinator seed mixes? We have at least an acre here we want to re-wild and make good pollinator habitat. I also want to send some seeds to clients in small packs I will make.

Floated 200 to 287 on the Dearborn yesterday. Likely the first group of the season as we had to navigate four fences strung across the river in a very unfriendly way. Note to self, always bring snips on that river. Beautiful float though, nary a soul did we see. Gonna be a short window this year, I think.

Hmm, good info thanks. Bruce directed me to this:
https://www.naturesseed.com/wildflow...ildflower-mix/
Question is: There is already grass there. Wonder if I need to burn and till an area for this to be successful or if I can just broadcast these and hope for the best?
:::: off to find some weird homesteading wildflower wormhole::::

FWP claims they have no authority over illegal fencing across rivers. They say it's the purview of the Montana Dept. of Transportation. So basically this means the ranchers can do whatever they want. I'm sure they assume it will get cut by floaters in the spring, then they string it back up when the floating season is over. Not a big deal if you bring fence cutters and keep an eye out.
Didn't see any cattle. That whole stretch is private ranchland but feels remote because there is no access, roads, etc. Only one building that you can even glimpse in 10 miles. Fishing opens next weekend, might have to get on it again.

LOL back when I worked on a very large ranch that river goes through, the local fish cop actually lived on the ranch in one of the houses, and his wife worked there, too. So you can easily guess who he was looking out for.
